Good morning Folks:
I've finally gotten around to uploading the PS-1 VSTi Synthesizer to my Substack.
It's a little long in the tooth, and uses the VST 2.4 standard, but I still think it's a unique, worthy addition to any set up that can still run it.
Learn more and download it for free here:
https://totcproductions.substack.com/p/ ... ynthesizer
It's not obvious from the install but, in addition to the two factory banks that come preloaded, there are about 1000 presets that get installed in the main installation folder.

Thanks!
Cakewalk Sonar can load 32-bit plugins, but I get a sputtering type of audio, even if I turn up the buffer size to 1024 samples.

I've been using it in Sonar (the most recent update) with no issues so far. Will keep an eye out for anything that pops up, though.Examigan wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 4:59 pm Thanks!

Wow a blast from the past indeed! I haven't had the PS-1 installed since I went 64 bit and I'd forgotten just how good it sounds. Thanks for bringing it back to life.
Love the first patch "Ode to Tim Conrardy" may he rest in peace. Those were some great times.
I don't know what the copyright details are for this plugin but I think it would make a great project for the Surge Synth Team to bring up to modern specs.
Just a 64 bit version and larger GUI sizes would be awesome. The GUI artwork itself still looks fresh.
Oh and it works fine in Orion 32 bit.

I remember this had a really nice synthetic flute preset. Yeah I would like to see this turn into a 64-bit if that's somehow possible. I can ask if AI can do it chat GTP

Yes, I miss Tim as well. He was a great guy. If you check the main installation folder for the PS-1, there is a whole bank of presets for the PS-1 designed by Tim.
Copyright belongs to me (via Pro-Sounds), but the code itself belongs to Luigi of Dash Signature/NuSofting (if he even still has access to it), so he would have to be involved in any updates. Who knows...maybe once I can get some of my bigger law cases out of the way and free up some time (and funds), I can talk to him about doing an update to 64 bit and VST3.

Yes, I know exactly which preset you're talking about, though I can't remember the name. Will have to cycle through them.Touch The Universe wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 6:02 pm I remember this had a really nice synthetic flute preset. As I mentioned above to Marc, any updates would have to be arranged with Luigi at Dash Signature/NuSofting, as he owns the original code. Pro-Sounds and I only ever owned the copyright to the finished product. Maybe in the future when time and funds clear up.

Back in the day, I never understood why this didn't blow up...always felt it was slept on and before its time...ability to load samples, random button and movement of trance gate...was the fastest workflow deterministic plus stochastic sound generator out there to me...I remember loading some sounds made with my mouth, hitting the random button a few times, and playing a bass line that shook the shelves and made some collaborators come running into the room...that's the type of experience that makes you wanna reach for a plugin again...one of many old plugins that still hold up today honestly...especially once you get to layering and wavesequencingTotcProductions wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 2:48 pm Good morning Folks:

Thanks, Bermudagold! High praise, and very much appreciated. The whole point of the design was to make it useful on the fly during a performance, so I'm glad to hear we nailed it.bermudagold wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 6:43 pmBack in the day, I never understood why this didn't blow up...always felt it was slept on and before its time...ability to load samples, random button and movement of trance gate...was the fastest workflow deterministic plus stochastic sound generator out there to me...I remember loading some sounds made with my mouth, hitting the random button a few times, and playing a bass line that shook the shelves and made some collaborators come running into the room...that's the type of experience that makes you wanna reach for a plugin again...one of many old plugins that still hold up today honestly
As to why it never blew up...who knows. It was a tough market when it came out...lots of new synths were coming out around the same time and competing for people's money. I also think people had trouble distinguishing it from Vanguard because it had a trance gate and arpeggiator, even though it sounded absolutely nothing like Vanguard. It did get a really nice writeup and review in Computer Music upon its initial release.
Hope you can get it up and running on your current setup!

I think it was around 70 euros when we last had it for sale. I believe it debuted at 119 euros.kvotchin wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 7:06 pm Thanks! Will check it out later today. Never tried it when it was.. well, whatever it was before.![]()
