USB hubs for Windows 10

I've suddenly developed a problem with my Windows 10 computer where the one to multiple ports decides to cycle it on and off. I've tested these all on my Win 7 and Win 8.1 and they work as expected.
I run four main controllers simultaneously with two more I keep plugged in and ready. Windows 10 has specifically targeted my Studiologic VMK188+ to cycle on and off and it appears it does not do it if I run it directly to the computer without the other controllers outside the hub. Equally, the other controllers seem to run okay in the hub without the VMK188+. No more USB2 or USB3 ports available.
Not interested in debates about Windows versions here, just need some recommendations of USB2 one to six or eight hubs not having this problem. I realize it's the VMK188+ that Windows 10 has singled out here and equally, replacing it is not an option either. It is my most used controller.
Or maybe someone knows if there's a system change in USB interrupts I can change back to to get back functionality I've always had until recent Windows updates.

Is the VMK having longer usb cables?
I think I would have tried a midi interface giving you din midi, and run that from one or more of your controllers.
- I like Nektar the most, having EMU and iConnectivity too.
- a Nektar Midiflex 4 or something, you can pick two ports as either in or out
- and din midi is giving you 10m cables even with no problems
- length usb cables may be part of problem if that is longer than 2m?
A midi interface is the actuall product, and think it is more tested than usb connections from devices themselves. Usb more like secondary function.
Just an idea....

Trying to move on from MIDI interfaces wherever possible though. Cord length is a consideration since I do use extensions to come out of the back of the computer. However, the things I mentioned before of what and how they work are from those and the hub starts at that extension. As well as the test of by-passing the hub and putting the VMK directly into that extension.
I've also tried using the hub(s) without the extension with the same effect. Although it was from an easily accessible USB3 port and I will try it again from the USB2 port next.
I thought it might be as simple as the cord just giving up its life, but it seems to work great without the hub(s).
When I was using Mixbus, every new version would give me this problem until they got around to the x.3 where they included it in the "Class Compliant" list. I don't use Mixbus anymore and it's only recently that MS updates have caused this. They really seem to be trying to get rid of anything they believe is standing in the way of making us buy new things. But nothing quite plays as my VMK does for how I play it. Not even the newer SL Studio88 that I have on top of it. (Which has no problem in how or what with I plug it into.) My main problem with the newer one is the size and placement of the joysticks, although their accuracy is an improvement over the VMK.
Seems MS has declared class compliance to be part of their technical debt removal?
Imagine if audio equipment did that to guitars...

What about cord between hub and computer? I'm using this generic hub/switch with all inputs on the other end, keyb, mouse, MIDI. Never had a problem with MIDI (Komplete S-something), but I had USB Sony camera that would keep disconnecting and it was down to USB cable - some worked, some did not, even new. It was down to combination of quality, length and some random factor.BBFG# wrote: Fri Aug 08, 2025 6:45 pm I thought it might be as simple as the cord just giving up its life, but it seems to work great without the hub(s).

After a few trial and error reconfigurations, it seems to be working okay for now. For whatever reason, the hub has a problem when connected by an extension (male to female) USB to the computer. Those extensions test good otherwise.
Thanks to all for their input.
