Arranger track is the better way to remix or shunt sections over to the right of the project your working on. Then simply save as a new version etc. It's less hassle than using the Scratch Pad window.
I aways use the empty space to the right of the project for part or section idea's etc. Scratch Pad looked great on paper but not so much in use.

Exactly, using the empty space make a lot sense. I use it to get different parts of the songs for PR material often, mark the section with the markers, and export between the markers, boom!Bowsy wrote: Tue Aug 05, 2025 1:40 pm Arranger track is the better way to remix or shunt sections over to the right of the project your working on. Scratch Pad AND Launcher feel useless at the moment, they need a big overhaul IMO to be usable.

Having snippets at the end of your timeline tends to lock you in to not progressing.
The scratchpad really is the cure for that. It’s good particularly because you can create an unlimited number of scratchpads, and then sequence the sections in the Arranger List. You can hide it completely, or have all of your idea segments quickly accessible without having to scroll all around, while still keeping out of the way of your main timeline.
What I don’t like is the Launcher. I even tried to give it a chance, thinking maybe it could be like a more sophisticated scratchpad matrix that makes all your ideas accessible at once, but it just didn’t work out like that. I noticed that once PreSonus actually added it, all the ravers and wannabe DJs shut up about it, and moved on. After their deeply annoying campaign of whinging and whining until they got, they don’t even use it, it seems. Of course I can’t blame them, it was always a stupid idea. Hopefully PreSonus will remove it since it’s been such an all around dud.

The reason the launcher is not used IMO is that it's nothing like Ableton's.
It's just there to be there, nothing more.
You can't record into the launcher properly, you can't adjust the length of oneshots, and some other problems that I cannot remember at the moment.
Either the launcher is really bad, or I don't understand how to use it, which is also PreSonus' fault because they only shared a tutorial video to use it as another arrangement tool, not a live recording, live performance tool.

I think this is the key point of the launcher: It is a variant of the scratch pad with a little more immediate access - nothing more.Fornicras wrote: Tue Aug 05, 2025 2:28 pm Either the launcher is really bad, or I don't understand how to use it, which is also PreSonus' fault because they only shared a tutorial video to use it as another arrangement tool, not a live recording, live performance tool.

You can adjust the length of one shots by selecting the clip then adjusting the loop end point.Fornicras wrote: Tue Aug 05, 2025 2:28 pmThe reason the launcher is not used IMO is that it's nothing like Ableton's.

What you can't do, as far as I'm aware, is overdub record MIDI into an existing cell. It kills the whole purpose of using the Launcher to build ideas. Ableton Live has a simple Session Record Button that lets you overdub record into an existing clip. Makes no sense how this could be overlooked, it's fundamental.

I asked AI if Presonus will remove the launcher, here is the reply ..............jamcat wrote: Tue Aug 05, 2025 2:15 pm Hopefully PreSonus will remove it since it’s been such an all around dud.

AI Overview
No, Studio One will not remove the launcher. It's a core feature for loop-based production and performance, integrated with the timeline. While you can minimize or hide the launcher view, it remains a fundamental part of Studio One's workflow, particularly in the latest versions.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
Launcher is integrated:
Studio One's launcher is designed to work alongside the timeline, allowing for flexible switching between linear and loop-based arrangements.
Minimizing the launcher:
You can minimize the launcher view by clicking the right-facing arrow (">") next to "Scene 1" or by using the keyboard shortcut (B).
Launcher Exclusive mode:
You can also utilize the "Launcher Exclusive" button (located next to the side arrowhead toggle button) to maximize the launcher's space and focus solely on it.
Workflow with the launcher:
The launcher is built around "Cells" where you can place audio or instrument parts, and it seamlessly integrates with the timeline, allowing for dynamic switching between the two playback modes.
Performance-focused:
The launcher is particularly useful for live performance and loop-based music production, allowing for quick auditioning and arrangement changes.

I remained on version 6, so no launcher for me, but out of curiosity, how has it "wrecked" Studio One?chk071 wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 12:33 pmjamcat wrote: Tue Aug 05, 2025 2:15 pm Having snippets at the end of your timeline tends to lock you in to not progressing.

The point that AI correctly made is that Presonus put in the launcher to integrate "loop" based production, ie:Splice. Its a new revenue stream, so very doubtful that it will ever be removed.

I think that statement was reflecting a general phenomenon on the forums: the user base of the respective DAW's are never happy with what they have. Bitwig has extensive modulation possibilities? Ableton has a great launcher? Logic has "session players"? We want to have that in our DAW xyz, too!
The impact: rather than focussing on the strengths of their product, the developers (and even more so the product managers) try to mimick competitors to make their product more attractive.

Agreed. Also very doubtful they will ever expand on the browser while it has a cash shop in it. People asked for browser improvements for years with regards to various features. Unless Splice stops providing a source of income for them it's more likley the Splice addon will get work over the browser.dellboy wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 12:55 pmThe point that AI correctly made is that Presonus put in the launcher to integrate "loop" based production, ie:Splice. Short answer. It hasn't. You can ignore it for the most part. However S1 7.x is extremely buggy so if anything it feels like wasted resources and added tech debt. I've used the launcher a bit to see if its better than scratch and frankly, I prefer scratchpad.dellboy wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 12:49 pmI remained on version 6, so no launcher for me, but out of curiosity, how has it "wrecked" Studio One?chk071 wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 12:33 pmjamcat wrote: Tue Aug 05, 2025 2:15 pm Having snippets at the end of your timeline tends to lock you in to not progressing.
