It's a shame there isn't a way to create modulators, as far as I know. If you look at Stepic, for example, which has a VST version and a M4L version, it's able to do more in the M4L version because you can connect it easily to things you want to modulate. In Bitwig, you have to make MIDI CC thingies and wire it up manually, which feels quite primitive.

The new version can’t come soon enough – we’re slipping into Big Brother mode, just keeping each other amusedliquidsound wrote: Fri Aug 15, 2025 5:02 am_leras wrote: Fri Aug 15, 2025 4:40 amLuckily for xbitz it's got lots of pictures.liquidsound wrote: Fri Aug 15, 2025 4:11 am354 pages… “You” are insanexbitz wrote: Thu Aug 14, 2025 7:45 pm. altough the per-segment or per-curvature modulation of chained Curves — still pretty neat.wintoid wrote: Fri Aug 15, 2025 5:06 am It's a shame there isn't a way to create modulators, as far as I know. especially if I wouldn't move it by hand...

now let the modulation of the modulation be note-triggered trough MSEGs, and on the first segment have it run through twelve times

then do the same on audio rate speed ... and now I've pulled the modulation out of the Grid, haven’t even touched voice stacking(per note modulation) yet — if I’d kept it in there, could’ve just patched it straight into the built-in Sampler ...

I just want to thank you for these examples - I'm loving the creativity and demonstrations of how people use itxbitz wrote: Fri Aug 15, 2025 9:12 am now let the modulation of the modulation be note-triggered trough MSEGs, and on the first segment have it run through twelve times

Isn't there a point where the increased complexity of modulations becomes irrelevant to the actual sound? Or putting it differently there will always be a simpler setup that reaches to the same result in term of what we hear?

You could say that about much of Sound Design and emulation. How much of mastering 'tweaks' does the average listener notice ?andy4trance wrote: Fri Aug 15, 2025 1:56 pm Isn't there a point where the increased complexity of modulations becomes irrelevant to the actual sound? But for many, it's part of the journey of creation. For others, presets and/or samples are 'enough'.

I regularly rave about Bitwig's modulation system. I especially like it cause I don't get boxed in and whatever I want to do, I can. Still, most of the time, what I do in a given case is fairly simple, though it may be nuanced.andy4trance wrote: Fri Aug 15, 2025 1:56 pm Isn't there a point where the increased complexity of modulations becomes irrelevant to the actual sound? plus can realize things that can be used elsewhere — for example, a single stack modulator with a Curve can create a double playheadI(parallel doubled, reveresed modulation) in about five seconds
doesn’t hurt to play around with BWS even without a specific goal, on a ‘what would happen if…’ basis, because otherwise things never get discovered

Sorry. I wasn't trying to do one-upmanship. I was just showing you can do the same thing without making a complicated patch in Grid. (Also, you can switch between different envelopes in LFOTool with automation, which is an ongoing missing feature in Bitwig -- being able to switch between modulator shapes in a modulator for different parts of a song...)xbitz wrote: Fri Aug 15, 2025 9:12 am now let the modulation of the modulation be note-triggered trough MSEGs, and on the first segment have it run through twelve times

If you really want to get the control signal out of LFOTool to use it for something else, you can assign the envelop to volume and then run DC through its audio, then use audio rate modulation modulators in Bitwig to read it and apply it to targets. I sometimes do this with Polyverse Gatekeeper (which can output a CV, without needing a DC input), because Bitwig's Segments, Curves, etc. modulators don't let you switch between shapes or easily re-synchronize the timing using events from the song like notes after a bar of 2/4 instead of 4/4 or whatever.
I've never felt the desire to modulate LFO MSEG points at audio rate. Most audio rate modulation sounds bad and needs to be keytracked or integrated into the synthesizer, imo.

The Wavetable LFO could do that, but we have no built-in way to draw individual waves so I've never used it.tumface wrote: Sat Aug 16, 2025 12:57 am Sorry. I wasn't trying to do one-upmanship.
