rad about it from Uncle E in the Bargain Discussion

really interesting, but dunno, i see not much activity and dont buy just some random plugins anymore especially with online CP!
any users here using it?

i dunno if this vst is kinda still lonely? chopping samples, randomizing the slices, timestretching etc. also a stereo option.

I just bought it, there are plenty other things that are similar, e.g. any slicer type sampler. Though most tend to go further in the way of on-board effects and whatnot. This one is simple and efficient imo, I do hope they add some more features to it along the way, playback options etc. To name some competition, HY-Slicer, Egoist, Serato sample etc...

I'd love to have a discussion about these type of plugins. CHOP-R looks interesting, but even the $49 USD sale price is too steep for me.

To name some other cheaper competitors:

Initial Audio Slice - https://initialaudio.com/product/slice- ... cer-plugin
(This one is currently on sale $39. I've seen it for $29.)

WA Production ChopBeast - https://www.waproduction.com/plugins/view/chopbeast
On intro for $19.90 USD for a few more days (plus you can get a freebie)

Big Fish Audio Momentum 2.0 - https://www.bigfishaudio.com/momentum.html
Recently updated and FREE, but you need a subscription to get the most out of it.

MPC Beats is FREE and awesome for chopping/slicing/flipping samples, but it's definitely not simple -- it's a DAW and a plugin.

Hy-Slicer has a feature limited free version, these kinds of plugins are typically $50+ I think.
I have a lot of them heh. This one is more targeted for using 3rd party effects
for me, so the simplicity is perfect.

*Slice from Lese is well worth $21 imo, though it's not going to give you as much precise control over stuff. I paid about $25 at release :D Technically, it's more of a looper than slicer, the name is a bit misleading.

I guess it should be mentioned that most users probably just use what's included with their DAW, e.g., Simpler (or Sampler) for Ableton, Slicex/Edison for FL Studio, and Cubase's Sampler Track (or Groove Agent SE).

I also gotta give a shout to AIR's Transfuser 2. Yeah, it''s old (with a dated and tiny UI), iLok'd, and not exactly simple, but it's hella fun once you click with it - https://www.airmusictech.com/virtual-in ... ansfuser-2

Just to clarify, Chop-R is not meant to be an ordinary slicer.

The key feature is the (intelligent) randomizer.

This is combination with the grid based slicing makes it possible to quickly flip loops for inspiration.

Chop-r is great. If they added micro adjustments to the slice position to account for internal time discrepancies in breaks then I’d probably never use anything else.

As Lobith pointed out the star of the show is the intelligent randomiser. I think a lot of beat jugglers/shufflers are just that bit too random whereas Chop-R always manages to sound musical. Plus you can build up multiple banks of different chips to trigger with midi notes.

Another really fantastic slicer is Renoise Redux. There’s also New Sonic Arts’ Vice 2 and Serato Sample.

Yeah.. I've been playing with the demo and I'm on the fence. It seems like the closer the transients are on the grid, the better it works.

It also desperately needs an 'undo' button imo. Would also like the ability import/export patterns.

Just an update that we are already working on the "manually adjusting slice starts", but we want to give it some more testing before we release it.

N.B. just a reminder that the 50% welcome discount ends 31.08. i.e. tomorrow ;-)

I'll just say avoid the VST called Chop Beast (it may be one word) by WA Productions. They usually have great plugs, but this is a real dud of a chopper.

It took a little longer, but we pushed an update, where you can adjust the slice beginning and end to catch every detail, if a beat missed the grid.
We added a blog post on our page (https://www.lobith-audio.com/chop-r-update-slice-fine-tuning/).

And to let you check out the new feature, we made sure that everybody can test again for 14 days.

Happy chopping
