Am I correct in saying there is no demo version for Nexus 5? I am tempted to add it to my synth collection.

Also does anyone know what sample content is included in the Starter version? That seems like the sweet spot for value to then add favorite expansions over time.

Correct, there is no demo.

It includes the factory content from all previous versions and >1,100 new factory presets for Nexus 5, but no expansions. Unless you specifically want the most recent expansions or every expansion, the Starter version is the way to go IMO.

You can pick up nexus for like 100 often on second hand vst sales, can't remember the name of that big one.

Thanks for your response. I'm afraid I worded my question poorly. I was really asking what kind of sample content such as strings and choirs, bells, flutes, etc or is the majority of the content just loops and drums or similar?

I'm looking for sample content to make my own patches and layers now that Nexus has much deeper sound design capabilities.

There are a few orchestral packs that don't sound too bad at all, but most of the content seems aimed towards modern electronic.

(You can go to the expansions page, sort by Genre, and scroll down to 'Real Instruments')

I don't own any of the orchestral packs, but I do agree that most of the factory content is very much aimed at electronic music. It's not all loops and drums, though - it's actually primarily more synth-based content. So, it would not be my first choice if my music primarily consisted of traditional instruments (e.g., woodwinds, brass, strings). But, if you make any style of electronic/dance music, there's no shortage of raw sounds in the Nexus 5 factory content to work with. That said, you can also import your own samples. As for synthesis, it has classic VA synthesis/waveforms, FM, granular, and a few other synthesis types. Bottom line - I would liken it more to Omnisphere than Kontakt.

This is a pretty good 17-minute overview of Nexus 5. The Sample ROM chapter (7:16-8:01) will give you an idea of what/how massive the raw sounds library is (it gets bigger with each expansion you buy, of course):

Logic Pro | LUNA Pro | OB-X8 | Prophet 6 | OB-6 | Trigon 6 | Rev2 | TEO-5 | Pro 3 | SE-1X | Minitaur | Integra-7 | TR-1000 | Analog RYTM mk2 | Digitakt 2 | TD-3 MO | TD-3 | Maschine+

Thanks gentlemen. :tu:

I watched the video above and several others and have purchased Nexus 5 Starter. It's installing as we speak.

I think there will be considerable overlap with VPS Avenger but I expect Nexus to be a very useful tool in my collection. :)

No, these are general effects(add effects), but I'm interested in standard ones.

In the Nexus version 5.2.18, there was a convenient button for switching - standard effects.
For quick work on sound.

I purposely held off working with Nexus until this morning so I could get a fresh start hopefully after a good night's sleep.

Holy smokes this is a seriously powerful synth. I don't know if I prefer it over VPS Avenger yet but time will tell which one wins out.

The workflow is very intuitive and easy to grasp. One of the ways I judge a synth's design is whether or not I have to reach for the user's manual right away and so far I have not needed the manual to figure anything out in N5. It's a very logical and well designed synth. It's also very deep and I don't feel like I'm limited in any way when making patches.

So far I prefer Avenger's VA engine better but N5's engine is certainly high quality. I wish the Unison voices could go more than 5, at least to 7 which is what I normally prefer.

So far I'm very happy with the purchase of Nexus 5. I'm sure it will be in my top 5 most used synths going forward. :tu:

Anyone who thinks synths like Nexus or Avenger are just "one finger romplers" are seriously missing the point. They are so much more powerful.

Ok back at it......... :hyper:

Only just installed 5 - had held off til now hoping for a lighter interface option but still no sign. I can live with it but...

I'm finding the interface sizing odd and tricky. On my monitor setup of 1920x1200 and 1280x1024, the UI is way too big at 100% and way too small at 75%. Particularly, the knob text is small - I'm aware I can change the browser text size.

Ideally the user needs to be able to choose the zoom level in more a granular way, or just with more incremental options, eg 85%. @Figbug - any chance of incorporating more zoom levels/options to cater for more users/systems?

Worth pointing out that I've been a user since Nexus2 and not seen these sizing issues even more recently in 4 or 4.5. At this stage I have to say I preferred the 4.5 interface.

One more UI thing - there's an option to load a patch on a single click, but this is for a mouse click. Using the keyboard we still have to press right arrow after scrolling to a patch to load it. Please can you implement immediate patch load on keyboard scroll when using the "single click preset load" option?

Thanks for listening!

Grab the bottom right corner, hold shift and drag. It'll snap to 5% increments.

Amazing - thank you! I totally missed that.
