let's say, the whole automation becomes usable once you realize that delete/erase tool places two points(without dragging) — the start and end of a zero-width selection — and from there you can build the 4-point automation, with fallback(or default) values and the deltas. From here on, it’s a different story ... the magical Bitwig...SLiC wrote: Mon Aug 18, 2025 7:53 am I agree withy this, modulation is fun for modular style composition, but far less necessary to me than automation.
Although he modulation is great, I often defer to VSTs modulation so I can save it with the VST.
Let‘s speculate about 6.0

Isn't this only in Arranger mode? Why can't it work the same way in clips? Set the play head to some point and then start from that point every time I press space bar.

What is this sourcery? Is that just in the main arranger window?xbitz wrote: Sat Aug 23, 2025 4:18 pm let's say, the whole automation becomes usable once you realize that delete/erase tool places two points(without dragging) — the start and end of a zero-width selection — and from there you can build the 4-point automation, with fallback(or default) values and the deltas.

From here on, it’s a different story ... the magical Bitwig...(Hopefully in BWS6 this will just be a single click without the tool changing)
I cannot find that in the manual... And I thought I was reasonably adept as I can use Alt to make curves between points.

it’s not just in the arranger, the eraser tool is everywhere (if you drag it instead of clicking, it selects an area with a start and end point — this is basically the edge case of it). Anyway, in Logic it’s a one-move action, that’s how it should be — go BWS 6!_leras wrote: Sat Aug 23, 2025 8:24 pmWhat is this sourcery? Thanks very much I'll have a play with that it looks pretty helpful.xbitz wrote: Sun Aug 24, 2025 5:55 am it’s not just in the arranger, the eraser tool is everywhere (if you drag it instead of clicking, it selects an area with a start and end point — this is basically the edge case of it). (It would take me an embarrassing number of clicks to do that
And yes hopefully 6 adds this type of nice tooling.

Apparently we have to pay for Bitwig Version 6.x, just got a mail shot from Polarity stating:
"Bitwig Studio 6 is about to be released, and I am excited to explore all its new features with you during the upcoming livestream.
If you already own Bitwig or are thinking about buying it, you only need to make a one-time purchase, which gives you access to the version you buy forever, plus a year of free upgrades.
After that year ends, you can continue using everything you have, and only pay for another year of updates if and when you want the latest features. The licensing model is flexible and not a subscription, so you are always in control. You can also install Bitwig on up to three devices, making it convenient for different setups.
Bitwig Studio 6 beta will be available to download in two days, with a live stream planned for Wednesday to discuss the new features.

That email just restates the existing Bitwig payment model, nothing new.Sysagent wrote: Mon Aug 25, 2025 6:39 pm Apparently we have to pay for Bitwig Version 6.x, just got a mail shot from Polarity stating:

It’s news to me…
I thought the annual payment I made would include the natural upgrade from version 5.x to 6.x. therefore it's no different to Ableton then.
As they say, everyday is a school day eh?

If you're indeed making an annual payment (which you don't have to with Bitwig), then that means you've got a permanently active upgrade plan and will not have to pay anything on top to get version 6.Sysagent wrote: Mon Aug 25, 2025 6:51 pmI thought the annual payment I made would include the natural upgrade from version 5.x to 6.x.
Everytime you activate an upgrade plan, you get access to any new major or minor release versions for a year, and get to keep it forever. After the year runs out, you'll only reveive patch versions (e.g. 6.0.3) for whatever the latest major/minor version was when your plan ran out.

Yep if you have an active upgrade plan then you get the new version, it’s that simple. After you get access to a new version of Bitwig, you permanently get that version forever.
That’s why it’s an upgrade plan and not a subscription. Subscription implies you lose access to software once you stop paying.

With the upgrade plan you'll have at least the year of updates, but it's usually even more because Bitwig gives away all the bug fix updates before the next version. My plan ran out in may but i'm still having all the 5.3.... updates. But I don't get the new Bitwig Circle plugins anymore. It means there's always some third party plugin giveaways in your account. The older plugins will fall out from there at some point, so it's good to renew the plan if you want those.

I think if you’ve already switched to another DAW for a while, the cheapest option is still the $16 one-month Splice plan and then cancel it, and if you end up really liking it, you can still hop on the Bitwig merry-go-round after .. Of course, that’s only if you want to jump on the beta hype train—otherwise, it’s the same deal once the final release is out.
btw. with that one-month but $16 timing offset, last time (one year later) I happened to land right on the first day of the 5.3 beta—so you can’t even say it was money wasted in advance.

is this for real?
It would likely bring in more Apple people — as would adding functionality to open LOGIC projects in Bitwig

I've never even slightly wanted AU compatibility in Bitwig. I don't even have any AUs installed, except the barebones test ones the OS comes with. Everything I use is VST or CLAP. I would put AU compatibility somewhere on my list of feature requests perhaps below #50,000.
