I almost chose TimeFlux but finding out that it's a standalone app made me go for Dust instead.

When using Dust in projects set to 48 kHz (my default) the pitch is off by roughly a quarter-tone so it only works in 44.1/88.2 kHz

Actually it only works in 44.1 - don't try 88.2 as you'll get some nasty clicks and overloads.

Its nice they did it for free, but I have already deleted it, didn't really like the sounds I was getting from it (or the presets) and I didn't care for the GUI.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

The sound quality of the grain engine in Dust is really bad when you start transposing pitches, full of artifacts and aliasing, crusherX sounded like that back in 2010.

Until Tuesday, August 26, 11:59 pm (PT) you can get a free Soundmorph title (including Dust) with the coupon code: SoundMorphCash99, which provides a $99 discount.
Yeah :tu: , I'm happy to have picked up WaveWarper2 for $0.00, for several desirable features the original doesn't have, though I haven't loaded it yet. I have all of their Vst's and was seriously not pleased with the (IMO) ridiculously high price of "upgrading" from the original.
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

It's rather a shame that so many folks dislike DUST and endlessly nitpick it to death. Is it perfect? No. It certainly has its flaws and it sadly could be a masterpiece with a handful of relatively simple changes that unfortunately don't seem to be on the horizon. But it's still an incredible piece of software that I would never willingly give up.

To each their own, of course, but I think it's a fantastic plugin that deserves a lot more respect and appreciation than it gets. Then again maybe it's a good thing more people don't get on with it. That way it remains a hidden gem and a secret weapon in my arsenal. :D

SoundMorph's Wave Warper 2 is now on sale for only $49. That's a sweet deal considering the 8 layer combo of granular and wavetable synthesis. And although it's known for incredible whooshes and pass-by effects, it's also capable of so much more.

Dust is also on sale for only $39, and it's one of those synths that excels at generating all kinds of ear-candy, and highly-detailed pads and atmospheres. So if you've been waiting for these to go on sale, now is your opportunity. :tu:

Here’s a genuine no-brainer... SoundMorph’s Dust is available for only $19 for the next 72 hours. If you’ve been wanting to pick it up, but have been waiting for a sale, now is your lucky day.

Also, I’ve received a few emails from SoundMorph that have been hinting at a new premium product, and I can’t help but wonder if this incredible sale is meant to pave the way for a possible Dust v2.0 release.

That’s just speculation on my part, but it’s something that I’d love to see. I’d also be blown away if they designed a new and updated version of their Timeflux app!

It’s a really fun way to experiment with time-stretching, morphing, and spectral processing. And it hosts your other VST’s with X/Y processing for maximum flexibility. It’s a little dated, but I still think it’s a powerful gem for sound designers!! 8)

I bought this, it crashed my daw a couple times and is a bit esoteric to operate, for instance I'm struggling to get it to stop playing.

That said, for a sample based granulation machine its low cpu & i love the sounds I''m getting. It can start blasting into red on the master quite easily which may account for at least one crash. I'll have to save frequently when using it but I'm happy I've got it & can see it getting a lot of use once I figure how to tame it enough to fit into compositional context.

Could see it being perfect for background ambient bed to lay tracks over, or evolving, sophisticated sounding dronescapes. Like it better than expected. Def. worth the 20 bucks for me.

Yeah, nusound mind, that's basically where I stand with it as well.

I do wish Soundmorph would get in there and iron out those serious wrinkles once and for all, and I'm rather confused as to why they've neglected to do so thus far. It wouldn't require too much extra work to get it to a rock solid, stable state. So what's preventing it?

But it's an incredible bit of software, warts and all.

And who knows? Maybe one day Soundmorph will finally release the update to end all updates... ...but until that day comes it will still remain an essential tool in my audio toolbox.

Yeah if worse comes to worse, once I've found something nice, I may end up enhancing it w/ a few choice plugins on the channel and just print it. Automate some fades at either end. Still well worth it to me for the sounds I managed to tease out of it. Drag and drop own samples is another big plus.
