Edit: see post below for 2025 update.

Our library of West African non-drums gets seven more instruments added to the original six, including woodwinds.

OG had four harps - seperewa, kora, kamele ngoni, and kafonu, and two xylophones. Update adds three more harps: a seperewa with more strings, a kora with fewer strings, a kavivi; also kologo which is a two-string ancestor of the banjo; one more xylophone; and two flutes.

This covers everything from the very old-school kologo to the kavivi which is so new it hasn't been patented yet, and might end up with a different name once it's patented and available in the "real instrument" world.

Updated walkthrough:

And new demo:

Also $10 off until September 4th, so $29 instead of the regular $39. Didn't want to release new stuff without an intro discount, even if you get twice as much content as last week. Also $10 off on the Ghana bundle, as this is part of it.

If you bought this earlier, the update's free and should automatically show up in Pulse Downloader. If it doesn't for whatever reason, lemme know.

Two more demos using the new instruments... in varying degrees of African-ness.

And pushed out a bugfix to Pulse, fixing a problem with the 14-string seperewa on Macs.

Last few days to get the new version at $10 off; goes to full price Monday morning. As usual, if you like to leave decisions until the last minute, don't count on me sleeping late.

No functionality update, but an information update.

Nanfo includes an instrument with no photo in the GUI, referred to as kavivi. We recorded it but Don Afero didn't want it photographed at the time because he didn't want anyone to be able to copy the design. It was so new he was still in the process of getting it patented, and hadn't even decided on a name for it. It was finally revealed to the world a few days ago on Don Afero's birthday. He ended up calling it kadanu, which means wisdom strings.

If you still haven't gotten it in sample form, Nanfo is on sale until Tuesday morning for $19, and so is the whole Ghana bundle for $79.

And while we still track down more West African instruments to sample, better new kadanu video...

And updated again, this time with the gonje, an instrument we literally have been trying to sample for years. The first attempt didn't have a tone we liked enough to release, so we bought one and gave it to a local violinist to learn. He couldn't master it at the needed level either, so finally we tracked down Mr. Yaya, one of the few old masters of the instruments, who lives in the mountains and isn't in cell phone range often. This is the result:

If you bought this earlier, the update's free and should automatically show up in Pulse Downloader. If it doesn't for whatever reason, lemme know. If you haven't bought Nanfo yet, it's also discounted following the update, because if we always do intro prices, this seems like the thing to do. So the entire collection is $19 instead of the regular $39 until September 27th.
