Starting today, Steinberg have a 40% sale. I could get a cross-grade offer for Cubase 14 Pro for just £179 ($240). As I am in the middle of a 2 month trial, this offer is very tempting.
I am also aware that Cubase 15 could be arriving in early November and I guess I'd want to upgrade to this version (perhaps not straightaway)
I'd be happy with Cubase Artist but that doesn't offer a cross-grade option :(

Does anybody have a purchasing strategy with respect to getting the best deal please ?

i barely scratch the surface with any new features. I generally upgrade every 3 versions. I wait till there's a mega cheap upgrade sale for my current version, keep the upgrade serial until i need it.
I've gone from vst to SX 3 to v6 to v9 to v12 :P
i have my upgrade serial ready for v15 ;)
i guess it depends what features you use, but i was perfectly happy with version 6 (yay re-orderable inserts), but i need to keep upgrading to be able to use the fecking thing with my OS. ok v12 was great cos it's now dongle free.
whatever your option, feel relieved you don't need to pay the insane amount we old-school f**kers have had to shell out over the years. I think i paid a grand for SX3.

So if I purchase a Cubase 14 serial number today (and not register it), I could use it when Cubase 15 is released ? I had assumed that serial numbers are linked to version numbers - but I'd be very happy to be wrong ;)

Cubase 14 competitive upgrade is 209 Euro at https://www.bestservice.com

Steinberg regularly cycles through 30%, 40%, and 50% periods, occasionally more, but only sporadically. I personally ignore all but the 50% (or more) sales. And generally better on that from dealers offering additional coupons.

yes, if you don't register it, you can wait until Steinberg announce 15 (inside the grace period basically) then register you will get v15.
unless they change their policy somehow, this is the way it's always been.

Yeah, as Sqigls said - I've not heard that they changed that policy, so you should be good for v15 if you buy now but don't register it.

Must admit I'm a tiny bit tempted. For me it would be an upgrade from Artist to Pro at $232.80 as opposed to the usual $388. The main thing I miss out on is the modulators...but still not sure it's something I'd actually use that much. Is it worth $230 to me? I doubt it, as I don't tend to dick around with actual mixes that much, but I suppose there is a handful of plugins that come with Pro but not Artist. Eqs are not really that much of a thing for me so they're a bit meh, there's a multiband comp but Squasher is exactly that and pretty good already. A chorus...meh.

I think it's just GAS TBH. Artist already has absolute shitloads of stuff that I never even touched, so Pro just has more shit I won't touch. BUT...shiny new toy for -40% :hyper: :dog:

Post

True, a lot of the Pro stuff is pointless for me but the modulators look fun :)
Also, the Artist upgrades would be cheaper too going forward.
Unless you can upgrade (paid downgrade ?) Pro 15 to Artist 16 :?

If I buy the crossgrade now (was already verified and the link to buy is valid until Oct, 5th) do I get a code from Steinberg which I can activate whenever I like or does the activation happen as soon as I buy it?

I love the idea! :D But seriously, I went from Artist to Pro once before and I felt like what I paid for was mostly an additional layer of complexity, if that makes sense?

I'm fine on Artist again now and it's the sweet spot.

Probably me too, I wish demo's could be switched to lesser versions (ie Artist) so you could evaluate your actual potential purchase

Just hold the Option key right after launching Cubase Pro, and you’ll be able to choose which edition you want to start.

I just started using Cubase 13 artist last year and just upgraded to Cubase 14 Artist. I can't see myself using all the features of pro. I barely get around all the features of artist. I'm sure I'm missing out on what I have as I really haven't delved into 13 let alone 14 artist.

That's great, thank you - can't believe I didn't know that

I'll say one thing. On the purchase page they hide upgrade from Artist 13 to 14. I assumed it must have been a link to another page as it wasn't clearly visible. It's like they were pushing Pro so hard they thought one would give up and jump to pro.
