Would love to see vertical, time based variations that can be applied over a span of time and moved freely.

Would love to see dedicated tab for managing our phrases.

A dedicated tab to arranging. I love RCs way of moving sections around so easily. Id love to see a lot of thought out into this. Even the ability to save arrangement presets that can be applied to any composition would be amazing.

Ability to preload phrases to midi keys, triggering them , with ability to record, whenever pressed to experiment with improvising.

After working with RapidComposer for a good bit, I’ve noticed recurring issues with harmonic context handling, chord/scale detection, and the reliability of suggestions which are a big turn off, honestly. At least some of these issues have been brought up by other users already.

• Inconsistent enharmonic spelling — Sharps and flats mixed in the same key, ignoring context.
• Unreliable scale/chord detection — As a result of RC's weak understanding of harmony, imported chords from outside the program (e.g., from a DAW) are frequently misinterpreted, which leads to poor recommendations. Developing harmony within RC can easily get frustrating because of this!
• External chords feel off — Kinda similar to the point above: when brought into RC, they’re not placed in the correct harmonic context, so playback and suggestions suffer.

For a mature, niche tool like RC, I’d expect it to at least match or surpass something like Scaler in harmonic awareness/intelligence, approaching the analytical depth of Melodyne. Specially given the kind of tool it aims to be. Right now, it feels too hit-or-miss. Imo, it’s time for a deep, serious revamp of RC's brain before anything else, since it's such an elemental feature.

Thanks for considering this, Attila. I know how devoted you are to developing RC!

When do you expect beta to be available for 6?. I can not wait.

Post

No rush, he's a one man band for the most part I believe?!

Post

Actually the current beta is the beta 6, he is just using 5 as the base name for now. I am sure he is gonna surprise everyone with something cool though.. ;)

I wonder if anything of this:

"The upcoming version introduces many exciting improvements, including a unique new tool"

could be revealed ?

Especially about the "unique new tool" ? At least some hints would be helpful....

One maybe crazy and not possible (cause of fixed integration into RC) thing coming to my mind evrytime I try again to get into RC (and fail again....): I have manage to work with Melodya now, was a learning curve too but feasible in a way.

And I am looking on Midimutator, but as I have already so much sequencers, arps, phrase and pattern tools wondering what added value that will really bring ? At least being into Melodya will definitely help to use Midimutator.

But, back to the start, what I would really like to see outside of RC (and would be instabuy for me) would be the idea tool. Its always my starting (and end.....sigh...) point evrytime I try again to get into RC.

This as a separte tool would be really a dream come true for me. Think I just mentione....

I am reminded of a quote from Peter Stone the creator of "Symbolic Composer" an extensive system for Algorithmic Composition based on the Lisp language:

"Sometimes it will seem that we are trying to crack an egg with a hammer"...

I want easy Python SDK for creating basic projects via instruments.

My feature idea for RC6: Yellow sticky notes

I would love some way to attach comments, todo items, explanations to chords, notes or phrases.
It could be something like a yellow (or other colored) tag which is visble as a tiny icon on a note, phrase or chord, which expands when you click on it to reveal your comment.

As I am using RC also to study harmony (in Open Studio), this would be a great way to describe the harmonic ideas which are used here. It would also be a great tool for compositions, to note what you still have to do or which parts you would like to improve later.

Love that idea, I kind of do that in Reaper. What I do is create a track just notes.

So, I finally got around to trying out RapidComposer 6, picked up LE during the AudioPluginDeals sale a while back and oh man… I'm so glad I did, this thing is insane. I honestly wasn’t expecting to be this impressed. The way it handles ideas, variations, and structure just clicks. You can tell there’s some serious forward thinking design behind it and it’s not just another “music theory helper,” it’s super intuitive, yet deep enough to get lost in for hours.

That said, I do have one small feature request (and maybe others will agree) it’d be awesome if we could create folders in the Idea Tool for chord progressions and chord rules. Something like genre-based, mood-based or even Key based user folders would be perfect. Just a simple way to organize and recall large sets of chords, progressions, or custom harmonic rules in the idea tool where we can select chords and chord rules. It’d make long-term projects way easier to manage and backup.

Major props to you Attila, seriously. RapidComposer 6 LE is blowing my mind right now, and I can’t wait to see what else it can do.

Thank YOU so much, Attila!!!

I'm really grateful for all your suggestions and ideas, they'll definitely keep me busy for the next few months (or years)! Thank you!

I know there's still plenty to improve, and some areas definitely deserve a rethink or a complete rework.

It's not widely known, but unlike many companies that avoid touching older parts of their software, I sometimes rebuild features from the ground up. It's tiring work, but whenever I realize, "Hey, I could do this much more elegantly than I did years ago," I put a lot of effort into rewriting and improving things.

Thanks!

I am going to add a quick way of organizing progressions in the browser, for v6.0.1 which is expected in a few days. Right-clicking on the selected progressions will let you copy them to a folder of your choice, e.g. to "Happy progressions". This is a simple solution, but I hope it will be useful.

Wow, this is so amazing. Thank you so much, Attila, for considering my request and actually implementing it! That’s incredibly fast and honestly, it shows how dedicated you are as a developer. I think RapidComposer will just keep getting better with every update, and with the implemented ideas it’s becoming clear how much thought you put into making it both powerful and user-friendly.
I can’t wait to try the feature out in v6.0.1! Thank you again for being so responsive and for continually pushing this software forward with so much love and care. This really is a one-of-a-kind software. It’s rare to see this level of responsiveness and care in software development especially in music related software's, you’re really doing an amazing job!

After trying a few things, I had a few more ideas that might make things even more organized and intuitive for new and experienced users. I have tried to represent it as best as I can visually for your reference.

This is how it's implemented now
Program Deafult.png
This is how it can be shown for more clarity especially as the feature set keeps growing. It would be great to have folders (or categories) based on related functions, like grouping everything related to Velocity inside a Velocity folder, Rhythm tools into a Rhythm folder, and so on. Even a simple folder system in these places will make a huge difference for new users and will help in finding ideas/methods and will keep it organized when adding new stuff. I just though it would help things be visually pleasing and aesthetic.
Idea 1.png
Next up we have Chord Rules. Here it will keep piling/stacking up if we keep making new rules. So can a folder system be implemented such as (Factory) where all the present chord rules can be stored and then (User) ones with folder capabilities. So that the user can create separate folders based on Style or Genre and save them within that folder. This way whenever a New Chord Rule is created, it can be stored and organised neatly.
CHORD Rules Idea.png
Then we have Track Variations. Here can we add two (use as default) options in the Variations Presets tab, as it will become tedious to keep clicking the heart button and loading presets for every track.
Track Variations.png
Also for MIDI CC's can we have a remove all CC's or mute all CC's option for all the Tracks. As sometimes MIDI CC's can disrupt the program with instability and unwanted changes.
Idea for MIDI CC Tab.png
I really appreciate how quickly you’re iterating and listening to user feedback, Attila. As it’s such a gigantic task and I think this is one of the reasons RapidComposer stands out so much.

Thanks again, Attila, for always pushing RapidComposer forward, you’re a genius!!!
