Even Cubase is offering very affordable crossgrade price!! And BorisFX is adamant on $275??? They're quite cocky too in all their replies on YT!! Deleting unfavorable replies, etc....

Steinberg has been rather "cocky" too over the years, and when sales go down spreadsheet guys tell sales to do surveys.
- questions what you want to see, more content or something else
- rather extensive I would say
But the upgrade costs have been relevant, and they honor those that are currrent in their version, with a stairway down to crossgrades.
- and they have a good spread in entry level versions as well
- which is where I scratch my head what Presonus/Fender is thinking about StudioOne?
It was mentioned BorisFX support mentioned Black Friday, so two months away people will see the overall policy.
- constant campaigns as needed, maybe ala Waves
- but what will that do to those that jumped on this wagon early?
But for me not seeing things fixed that I find relevant for years to come, I just dropped the idea to keep barking up this tree.
- the things I talk about I forwarded to Magix and they acknowledged that over a year ago
- and yet not there with Samp 2025, so what BorisFX is changing is hard to guess
- Magix knew they fight for survival and yet not keen on fixing things that much that I can tell
30 years in the making my a-s.
They use so much "programmer language" that really does not say anything what the feature is about
- "object editing", WTF is that, just reading that as a feature, it does not relate to anything music making
- it needs a subtitle that explains what is good about it!!!!
- I got the feeling devs are doing games or something else Magix hired and outsourced to do some new stuff in Samp
When I refreshed memory from not using Samp since ProX2 upgrading to ProX8 I found if it was a dozen keyboard command to select clips and tracks in various ways.
- I just felt "who is even thinking in these terms other than programmers", good to have somebody thought
- select to end of track, beginning of track, next/previous I get, but there are dozens more ways and there were toolbar buttons for them as well
- but this stuff is easy to ignore and just remove from toolbar, but still tells a story
It did not give impression that devs really used Samp extensively all day and see "this thing I repeat a lot, let's do a shortcut to make that easy to do"!
Since so many daws do what most people need, it's about the details, I think, if to go with one vendor or another.
I used Cubase Elements 2015 for a year and sufficient for the most part. But no headroom for things if projects grow a lot more.
- and worst issues I had later with Cubase Pro was some event in computer that made audio engine restart, in the middle of recording, so recording was aborted because of it.
- and contacting support they had nothing, but Elements versions had no problem with this, just Pro
- Elements just made a pop and nothing in recording it self and no audio restart or anything
- StudioOne made a pop, Reaper made a pop, Sonar made a pop, but Cubase Pro restarted Audio?????
So closest now if to jump on another daw could be Cubase Elements, just €50 right now!!!
- but I had other issues too with Cubase, serious cpu on video playback, but won't repeat it all
But Sonar Artist is fine, 10 years since updated, so no rush. Second closest might be StudioOne if policies are set right as before, if to have an alternative. But have the 4.7 license that I probably could use as is.

Someone just pointed out that one of their videos was out of sync with audio on yt, they refused to accept it and told the guy to check his system and kept arguing with him!! Huh!!??Other viewers had to also tell them that the video is out of sync!
Sad cringe!!
I mean if they're so cocky to not even admit a clear mistake in their video, how they'll treat us for feature requests, customer support, etc?
This is so disheartening to see Samp tossed to yet another adamant, rude owners!!

I was shocked to see their replies on such a trivial issue!!
At this point, All I need is Samp Theme (skin) for Reaper!! I'll happily pay good dough for it!!
Screw BoriFX!

One of the biggest mysteries with Cockos team that they did not hire a graphical designer for a bit, just like they hire a good author for manual.
- for 20 years they did not fix this????
2005 I got Sonar 4 instead of Reaper. I could not stand having this in my face all day long.
Trialed v7 and still the mixer coloring is just a big blob where I cannot see properly all the slots for sends and plugins.
- this dark on darker must mean devs use some extrem setting on their monitors
- I have monitors adjusted to also do photo/video with proper display of all gray scales, can see different level 0-5, and 250-255
- all you get is a colored text, but nothing to lead the eye
Dark theme of Samp is really nice, they could learn from that.
I tried the skins for Reaper, 5-6 of them, even donated to one, and closest was a ProTools Gold or something. But really extensive work to make a skin for the entire daw, so they just do the front and all dialogs and inner settings are original.
To fix a really nice skin through and through Reaper would be the choice of many more users, I think.
Sad, but I think Samp is dead in the water....

I watched the video as downloaded, and lipsync is off enough to comment on it.
- so BorisFX is a bit ignorant how that can be as his system plays it fine with lipsync
- If I play it back with bluetooth inear it's just about in sync
- but don't think it's the worst crime to be ignorant, that can be cured
- it's not uncommon to get that kind of support over all "it works alright here", "it should work" and similar
- just ignorant support agents I would say and the wrong thing to say as somebody seek help
Since comments were about how 80's new Samp looked, I can see the difficulty to please everybody.
- unless it's very much changed from ProX8 skin is really pretty and useful as is to me
- and he put a joke "80's is back" and also explained to those that did not get that
Not much of a riot, IMO. But there is disappointment in userbase and some are louder than others.
I had this old Finale Guitar 2003 that looked real nice to me, and also many styles of toolbar etc. So upgraded to v27 full version on a good deal and just hated the modern flat look and every tool was gray.
- gray, gray, gray - I'll take 80's look any day
It could be that BorisFX has a more efficient way of working and using staff so they will get by with much fewer users. So could be part of calculation. It's what all businesses face.
- but not honoring those that are current is a bad idea
- that you upgrade a 10 year old program for the same price is a slap in the face of those that are current???
But it does not change anything for me, I am done with Samp.
Studio is almost up and running after my move so will uninstall Samp any day now.

You might want to check FLogic theme / skin for Repaer! It's really nice and all fonts and colors seem to pop up well!lfm wrote: Sun Sep 07, 2025 5:38 amAgreed, so would I!scatman84 wrote: Sat Sep 06, 2025 8:35 pm

Samp had that environment which I just jelled well with! Too bad new owners are yet another overconfident, cocky bunch of people!!

Thanks for tip of FLogic, but maybe too generic for me.
I really like many of ProTools versions, but the part where mixer does not resize enough, so faders are almost 2/3 of screen
- and some I tried did make different color on toolbar buttons when active or not
https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/2270/ProT ... erThemeZip
I enclose a mod I did on Default_6.0 theme some years ago to get mixer clearly visible boxes and such.
- compares original side by side with my modded.
- thought for a bit that rest of theme was ok at least, mixer was big culprit
- identifying bitmaps is the biggest job, then to color different not a biggy
- multipurpose bitmaps, one part is color when select and one when not etc
The original theme is more like a big black blob in the mixer. Nothing for eye to easily catch channels and what is there. But this was just a start and did not finish it.
