In honor of Knobcon this weekend, UA put Battalion on sale for $69. I've been hoping that it would show up with the massive Plugin Alliance discounts, but no. So I picked it up. I like it a lot. I have several drum machines, but this is something different

I don't think it is, only played with it this weekend and wondering the same thing. Obviously it's tricky with generative stuff and all the automation but thought it would be possible to drag the basic pattern out? Though I'm still very much a beginner with it, haven't figured out to change the patterns yet from midi (assuming you can...?)Gam456 wrote: Mon Sep 08, 2025 7:04 am Hi
Is it possible to export the extract midi by drag and drop like XO, Microtonic or DreamComputer ?

I have to create a custom folder in the 'Factory Presets' folder in order to see them. Also, the Factory Presets folder doesn't even display in Finder. I only see it within the file/save menu in Battalion.
Can someone tell me the path for the 'User Presets' folder? I see it should be in Library > Audio > Presets .....
This has been maddening. I changed all of my Presets folder permissions to Read & Write, still no luck.
It seems it want's to save our user preset here...
'/Users/Simon/Library/Audio/Presets/Unfiltered Audio Battalion'
And here if you use Logic's preset system...
'/Users/Simon/Music/Audio Music Apps/Plug-In Settings/Unfiltered Audio Battalion'

It looks like they only thought about live performance and not studio production.GaryG wrote: Mon Sep 08, 2025 7:32 amI don't think it is, only played with it this weekend and wondering the same thing. I think you're right. I mean, I'm not a strict verse/chorus/verse/break etc person but it's nice to have different patterns you can at least trigger externally. Unless I'm really missing something (probably...) then seems you can only bounce to audio then chop and arrange in your DAW?Gam456 wrote: Thu Sep 11, 2025 6:55 am It looks like they only thought about live performance and not studio production.

There's an update coming with patterns and it looks like it will be worth the wait.
This is from the horse's mouth so to speak:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
"All the code is finally in place for pattern save/load, switching, quantization, etc. It was a real bear. Behind the scenes, Battalion has a couple-thousand parameters. We made it so that you can automate everything, even down to LFO depths on parameters.
Anyway, we made the totally awesome (as a product) and dumb (as programmers who have to implement it) decision that the patterns should be Elektron-style and contain everything so you can have full genre leaps from pattern to pattern with instant changes. It took a lot of attempts to get the architecture right, but I’m pretty sure everything is working now.
Right now we’re in UI/UX. We have good plans for keeping this all manageable and intuitive, but we move slowly on things like this.
For those who are worried about workflow, in the code the pattern manager considers parameters in groups: Voice, Sequencer, Mixer, and Effects. Everything will be saved to each pattern, but the user will have the ability (via global and per-preset options) to choose what gets loaded on pattern changes. We have an EDIT ALL button (active by default on new presets) where all knob changes get written to every pattern. That way, all patterns will start from the same spot if you want them to. When importing existing pre-pattern presets, there’s a global option for “Load preset only to Pattern 1” “Load preset to all patterns” or “Load preset to pattern 1, load parameters to all patterns”.
We have other really exciting pattern remixing things ready in the code. For now, don’t worry too much about workflow until we get this in beta. We’re considering a lot with all of this, which is why it’s taking so long.
EDIT: Also, patterns will respect your Lock settings."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think Midi drag and drop will be a thing since there are so many controls involved and all you'd be getting is the very basic step sequence.
I think having internal patterns is a better solution.

This sounds like a tom of work and very very exciting - Battalion has already moved to prominence when I'm working with drums, and this will take it to the next level for sure.
I have some minor quibbles but they are surpassed by the power of this device, especially the sound of the individual drum synthesis engines, the modulation, and the sequencer that is built with polyesters and generative music in mind.

But midi drag and drop or export. Who care care, we need that.
Any drum machine with a sequencer have this feature. There is no exception.

Yes! I'd love to be able to trigger patterns externally and switch between them at any point while keeping sync like I can with Geist 2. Hopefully that's coming.GaryG wrote: Thu Sep 11, 2025 7:18 pm ... it's nice to have different patterns you can at least trigger externally.
I just bought Battalion and I have to say I love so much about it. The modulation options are easy and powerful. The sound is great and most importantly the 'Perform' page is brilliant.
Two other requests so far:
- When saving patches it should at least bring up the existing file name as the default option. There's currently too many clicks and pages when most of the time i just want to save an updated version over my exisiting patch.
- When switching presets (with the DAW not running) it would be great to have the option of them playing at their intended BPM rather than the DAW's. Not a huge deal.

This update will definitely get me back to check this out again. It may be one of the few drum synths where I use the sequencer after all this parameter stuff is implemented.
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.

I reported an issue about 2 years ago when it first came out and UA still haven't issued a fix for it.
There is still a problem with custom samples at 96kHz playing back at the wrong speed if the plugin has been deactivated in Logic. Saving and reloading the patch won't fix it, even a restart won't fix it. The sample becomes permanently destroyed. This is a big problem.
My projects are all at 96k, so if I naturally stop to sample something to drop into Battalion I want to be able to do it quickly without breaking the flow. Stopping, closing the session, creating a new one, importing what I need just so I can create a sample that reliably plays back at the right speed is such a workflow killer.
So it would be really, really appreciated if they can actually address this problem with the next release.

Hey- this is news to me. Sometimes things get lost and we aren't able to keep track of all threads. I saw this by checking in here. I'll take a look- that should work but I believe you that it doesn't. I don't want all 96k sessions to be out of speed so that's critical in my eyes. Thanks for mentioning it again here. Cheers!simon.a.billington wrote: Wed Sep 17, 2025 6:46 am I reported an issue about 2 years ago when it first came out and UA still haven't issued a fix for it.
