Herein we will discuss all audio software as running under Apple’s newest (as of 9/15/25) operating system, named Tahoe (MacOS 26). Reckless new adopters, what seems to work? What seems to be broken?

Relevant discussion of iOS and iPad OS is welcome too!

A useful (if currently vague) overview is here:

Of note is that Firewire support is decidedly dicey.

it's non-existent not dicey. The extension is gone, Apple depreciated it.

So I'm staying on Sequoia for the life of the RME FF800 here. Already lasted around 20 years.

Doesn't your FF run on USB? My FF802 gets 4.3 seconds RTL @64 samples via USB.
I'm waiting to see if Vienna Instuments Pro works with it (now a legacy product, support to end 2025).
And whether I'll have to change driver extension for my FF.

I updated one machine. I notice no changes to application running. It just looks a bit different.

The only music software on that mac is spectralayers, which works fine.

VSL has confirmed VIPro compatibility with OS26.

VI Pro support will probably outlive me at this point. I have opted for very little of the "Studio" line that's supposed to replace the original. And I need more than one reason to want the version.

OK, I'm not going to be a guinea pig but I am curious.
Does Absynth work under OS 16? Wait, 26? What?

VSL said, last year, end of 2025 support for VIPro. So, not having the Dinerii to splash for the Studio eqivalents (even though they're reasonable upgrade fees) after having to buy new monitors (a grand), it's important to know how long that investment will last. I spent a pile on software in the last year, mostly to VSL.
You keep on keeping on, Jan. You're a survivor.

Not that it wouldn't take you two seconds or so to google it but the original 800 is firewire only. I can use it as a pre/adat slave without firewire, but to program it etc. plus it's 10 discrete inputs not using ADAT.

I normally wait a few months to upgrade, and Sonoma was one of the first times I upgraded right away, was a mistake as Kontakt broke because of it, and it was on Apple to fix it for once. Anyway, I'm going to sit out Tahoe unless it allows you to use iPads as touch screens or something else very worth it.

You know, I find that bit a touch snotty. I should not have bothered asking you anything.

I'm not sure what is snotty about it? you asked a question, but it's the type of question that can be answered yourself. I tend to want to be helpful, so I personally would have done the google search, since it seemed I "believed" that my device didn't have USB. You literally asked a question that if you were right would have made me look Iike I owned a product that I didn't know anything about, then jumped into a thread on Tahoe to claim my product was broken. I would have been a foolish person and you would be vindicated I guess.

Not the most flattering "question" to ask, on top of taking no time to research if you weren't mistaken in assuming I didn't know a device I own. Yet me mentioning all of this could be avoided by a simple google search is the insult.

Had you said "oh cool, I didn't know that", or any other response besides trying to play victim, I wouldn't have explained to you why without maybe knowing it, you were the rude person here, but here we are.

Ok. Gotcha. Methinks you protest to much. I won't bother with you again.

Ive been using Tahoe since the first Beta came out. On my main machine... I made backups and have a MacBook to fall back to :)
This update cycle was smooth sailing from the beginning, actually. Everything I use worked from the get-go.

Ok, Mr Internet Warrior.
First off, all you needed to say was 'it doesn't have USB. That's it. FYI, I was commiserating and offering an alternative suggestion.
Second, if everyone 'did a search' on what they wanted to know, there'd be about 80% less traffic in these forums. But no, you felt the need to take a dig.
Third, I don't 'play victim.' I am so fed up with 'victims' I've come across, it isn't something that I do.
Fourth: You were rude. When called on it, you doubled down and got abusive. I don't take shit from anyone. Not you, not anyone.
Are you ok? May I suggest getting out into the fresh air and away from your computer for a, oh, say a week?
And maybe get more fiber in your diet, or get laid.
Maybe look in the mirror and ponder how your Internet Warrior persona affects other people.
I didn't deserve your rudeness or your abusiveness. You, obviously, have something personal with me. 'Not my circus, not my monkeys.'
You are someone here whom I respected. You've shot that to shit in 2 posts.
Finally. Go do something anatomically impossible to yourself.
Cheerio.
