Hey, is there any delay with the possibility to modulate each tap duration? I was looking into Timeless 3 but it's not so straightforward because the envelopes are not triggered by the taps. Do you know any delay that allows you to do that?

actually sorry the mod is for the filter only

So, my question is what it would mean for the envelopes to be triggered by the taps? You mean you want an envelope follower on the output of each tap, which you want to use to modulate the delay time of that tap? If I've understood that right, wel... not so straightforward is indeed how I would describe that. :ud: You can do it in VCV Rack like so for example:

That would get you as many taps as you ever want, each modulated by its own envelope follower. But as regular delay plugins go I've never seen anything like that.

A multitap delay does not typically have envelopes (and I'm not aware of any that add it as a feature). It's just a time delay -- whatever comes in the input goes out the output at some later point. Usually quieter and often filtered, but no envelopes are involved.

Granular effects *do* impose an envelope over the playback, and some of them extend the concept of "grains" into note-length events.

I suppose one could create something that's sort of a multitap delay with a threshold detector that triggers an envelope.

Bluecat's Late Replies lets you do whatever you want, per tap, including hosting other plugins.

Sorry i did not explain well, Timeless for example has an envelope generator triggered by a threshold detector, but only for the input. If this trigger could be delayed by the given tap time, each tap could be modulated by this envelope, for example for gating. But yes I guess this is not a feature available on any Delay right now.
Its an effect I really like for ambient techno for example, I will try patch something in Max :)

And maybe an ideia for a future delay developer :)

Oh cool I will look into that :) Thanks!

the modulation on Late replies is very weak, not a real modular delay. all the modulation is effect based, no routing, no envelope followers or generators

That's when you bring in any plugin you want for each tap. By itself, it's not that impressive, but the ability to host a plugin per tap is where it shines.

If you're a Bitwig user, you could use one of the built in Delays. You only get a max of 4 taps, but each one has a pre effect slot as well as a feedback insert effect. Each effect has 3 modifier slots with a large selection of modifier types.

That is quite impressive. I hadn't checked it or used the demo.

I've made some crazy delays with Reaktor, but, not that hosted other plugins internally. I put separate outputs on each tap and routed them to separate channels.
I did similar things with hardware, too.

The PSP 608MD is one of my favorite delays, just waiting for an updated GUI.

it was updated a while back, the GUI is now resizable, if that's what you mean?

version
1.8.6

I think Blue Cat plugins use midi automation rather than internal modulators. The Late Replies manual lists automatable parameters. There are plenty.

How do you know that, I wonder? Have you heard a sound somewhere that you think was achieved that way? Can you give an example if so?

Anyway, I think if you put a multitap delay on a send, and then add the effect that you want to the signal *before* it goes in, that should do what you want, or something very close. A multi-tap delay with a gate on each tap should in most cases sound the same as a gated sound going into a multi-tap delay. That is unless you want different gate settings per tap of course.
