Good comparison thread over there in dat other place...
https://gearspace.com/board/gear-shoot- ... rison.html
He's updated the Dropbox with a lot more examples than are in the initial post. Towards the end of the thread someone shares some presets for the Overloud Gem Modula (or the Gem Mod that was free for a bit) that they've matched by ear to a hardware unit.
These Logic channel strip presets someone's done for Modulation Delay are pretty cool as well... https://www.logicprohelp.com/forums/top ... -in-logic/ You have to copy then into your Channel strip presets folder (as they are channel presets that include some heavy compression as well be as chorus) and then I've saved out the modulated delay presets from there. I like em!

My experience of the Waza Craft hardware is that it can apparently sound very different on different types of sounds which make comparisons hard. With some sounds even setting 1 is too much, others I can go up to full steam.
Out of Terrachorus, NI Choral, Eventide Micropitch, Ubermod, UAD Dimension D & Roland Cloud Dimesion D I found the last two closest to my memory of the hardware which I've been using a fair amount. The UAD & Roland versions did sound different from each other, but it was very slight.

You can get the modern interpretation as hardware device for the price of a plugin.

You might just want to check the used market for these and get surprised.

I have the Arturia and the UAD Dimension Ds.
The Arturia model sounds like how a new unit would have sounded 40 years ago, or one that was newly restored and recapped (because that is what they modeled), while Universal Audio's model sounds like an original well-preserved unit as it sounds today (because that is what they modeled).
Choose accordingly.

I think that's a good way to sum it up.ChamomileShark wrote: Wed Aug 19, 2020 11:20 am This is from an old SoS article
"This Roland product is a rather enigmatic device in that it is difficult to precisely describe its function. Rather than being a blatant effects unit, it falls more into the category of psychoacoustic processors such as the Aphex Aural Exciter, although the two devices are not directly comparable.
The function of this device is to either synthesise a stereo image from a mono source, or to further enhance a stereo sound source, and it may be effectively used on single instruments or complete mixes."
UAD say "famous for injecting spatialization, and sweet, subtle modulation. Used as a “secret sauce” by everyone from Brian Eno to Stevie Ray Vaughan, this legendary rack piece is an ideal example of functional simplicity."
The UAD certainly doesn't have a huge flavor adjustment to the sound it's just a subtle, and spacial, enhancement.
I quite like the sound toys Microsoft, but that is less subtle and almost more of a doubler.

If Massive Dim Expensive was based on a dim d, they didn't really get it. However, it's a great effect, much more full on though.PTV wrote: Fri Aug 14, 2020 4:23 pm Xfer's Dimension Expander is an emulation of Massive's Dimension Expander, which, IIRC, supposed to be based on Dimension D

These are just 'chorus' FX, not really like the dim d imo.

CE-1 might not be a Dimension, but it's a legend from the 75 (Jazz chorus)

I have the UAD one, which is too lush at times and makes me grateful how easy it is to group a single plug in in Bitwig (ctrl+g), to get a mix knob.
This auditory one sounds quite good actually, seems to have a bit more clarity which I think sounds nice. UAD is almost too much a lot of the time.

FWIW, Classic mode is dry on one side, chorus on the other, while Dual mode is chorus on both sides._leras wrote: Sat Sep 20, 2025 10:23 pm I have the UAD one, which is too lush at times and makes me grateful how easy it is to group a single plug in in Bitwig (ctrl+g), to get a mix knob.
