The manual, however, says I could put the drive before or after the filter.

Novation Mininova has a Drive (Distortion) option that belongs to the filter section and therefore is polyphonic, IIRC. I haven't used it for a while, so I am not completely sure. Time to dust that old thingy and to try it out again
The manual, however, says I could put the drive before or after the filter.

I think they just want softsynths as of now.knossos wrote: Tue Sep 16, 2025 9:20 pm Novation Mininova has a Drive (Distortion) option that belongs to the filter section and therefore is polyphonic, IIRC. I still usually go with zebra2 or zebrahz if I want per voice/ post filter (non filter) distortion. I have lots of fun pads that use poly aftertouch to bring in distortion over the sustain portion of the note. With an extra post distortion VCF module there's a whole lot of really useful expression there and you can turn a beautiful smooth pad into a crackling mess. It's also fun to then add some really gross master distortion/ wavefoldong at the higher levels of modulation (or with the mod wheel) so you can go extra dirty.
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.

By the way, I guess LennarDigital Sylenth1 offers polyphonic filter drive. Didn't own the plugin, so I need to reinstall the demo at some point to confirm this.

I recently did a survey of all the plugins that did high gain per-voice distortion, and the winner for the least aliasing was Phase Plant.

Do any modulars host NAM captures? If so, that might be a way to get the sound of hardware distortion per voice. I made a Tonex capture of the MF-101 saturating and it sounds the same.

NAM aliases a LOT more than Tonex, so I can't imagine it providing a better result than what's built into a lot of things like MSoundFactory, which has a lot of options in the distortion department and the ability to oversample to get a good result.Uncle E wrote: Sat Sep 20, 2025 5:09 pm Do any modulars host NAM captures? Hardware can be amazing, but it's often kind of tame. What are you using?Gam456 wrote: Sat Sep 20, 2025 3:39 pm For my taste if I a need per voice distortion, the only way is with my hardware, sound amazing, no aliasing, and I've got 3 stage.
I never realy like per voice on vsti
The headroom on my Prophet 6 is so good that you don't really get any dirt from the filter. The ladder filter on the PolyBrute has a distortion function, but it's pretty tame, though with the metalizer you can get that heavy overdrive sound. The Peak was excellent, but I felt like it was always a bit dark sounding. Nina's drive and overdrive are pretty tame, unless you goose it with the digital oscillator, which is comically hot in comparison to the VCOs. When you do that, though, it's excellent. The per-voice gain effect on the Prophet 12 is OK, but you have to hit it with feedback if you really want it to scream. (the analog distortion is global) The clear winner of my bunch is the Elektron Analog Four. That thing can go absolute blistering. It's fantastic. I wish they'd do an 8 voice poly that's more of a proper poly than four analog engines that can be poly-chained.

I can't believe no one's mentioned Vacuum Pro. You've got a mixer drive, saturation on both the filters, a shaper on the amp, and the master level also adds some gain. It's pretty clean too. It's a great sounding synth, IMO. Shame InMusic replaced it with some lame shadow of itself.
