Yes. To clarify: you have to both buy the license and get the pro subscription. Else, you don't get it to produce anything.
I tried with an api key from OpenAI but got an error that my free account on OpenAI did not suffice.
Sub for OpenAI is 23/month. Sub for Midi agent pro is 20/month, so i went for that. The good news is that the customer portal has a clearly visible "cancel" button to unsubscribe.
.
You write down what you want it to do and it takes several minutes to answer and produce the midi notes. There's a button from where you drag the pattern to your miditrack.
I first did a chord pattern and dragged it to my miditrack. Then i did a base melody to accompany the chords and it made a new track for that, so they didn't end up on the same track. No biggie.
The quality of instructions is what the result depends on.

Thanks for the information and for clarifying that you need a pro OpenAI/MIDI Agent sub for it to produce anything. I will pass for now.Saffran wrote: Fri Aug 15, 2025 7:42 pm Yes. To clarify: you have to both buy the license and get the pro subscription. Else, you don't get it to produce anything.

Thats it for me....

I'm looking for some advice on a sequencer for drums that lets you quickly select notes on a piano roll, lets you quickly assign probability (like stochas), let's you drag on a note for retriggering without having to jump to a separate menu (similar to XO) and let's you draw in velocity across multiple notes (like the velocity envelope in Reaper) and, one last thing(allows you to import midi items into the sequencer). Does such a magical beast exist? Currently I use Stochas to create fills and different drum parts, then I use a separate midi track in Reaper to trigger live changes between the different Stochas patterns with midi commands, then I have to use Reaper to quickly adjust the velocity for my rolls. It's kind of convoluted. Any suggestions? I've tried megababy and a bunch of other sequencers built in to other plugins but can't find anything that has a simple workflow. Thanks

This is a good thread, thanks.
https://devnoodles.itch.io/strum provides a VST that strums held chords by mouse-sweep or mod wheel. It's currently Windows-only, but with donations the developer will attempt MacOS compilation.

Just FYI - you can add an API from Open Router. That means you can use pretty much any model currently available and just pay the actual cost of each generation (a few cents depending on the length and model used). It's prepaid, no subscription. There are plenty free models as well, but I don't know if they are good enough for generating usable midi.ZincT wrote: Fri Aug 15, 2025 8:04 pmThanks for the information and for clarifying that you need a pro OpenAI/MIDI Agent sub for it to produce anything. I did check out DeepSeek AI and their api. As with Open Router there was this explanation of payment by "tokens".
It was a mess of words. Some i recognized and some was obvious case specific, unknown, and i didn't understand the economical side of it.
I could have reread it a thousend times, bleading from my eyes, but gave up and took the easy way out. I'll subscribe 2-3 months and then cancel if i can't get anything useful out of it.

Wow, what a deep thread. At first I thought it was an old thread, but now I see how much info is in it!
I'll have to read through the whole thing. I've made a bunch of Logic Scripter MIDI FX and was just posting about an update I just did to one of them (SmarterHumanize 2.0) when I found this thread.

Not sure how, but along the way I'd completely missed WA Production's Chords Pro+Notes. Came across chords pro by accident today and then saw that the chords pro+notes version was on offer for $14.90, Bought it and really like it for what it is.
In case anybody else is in the same boat of having missed it, here's a quick recap on what it does:
It's a chords and/or notes sequencer.
Chords part has up to 8 equal length segments, each segment has 4 notes for the chord (but notes can be muted), with global inversion control.
The chords can be randomly generated with intelligent inversions, or each chord can be individually selected from a pool, with individual inversion and velocity control.
The notes part can split each chord segment into up to 8 steps, where each of the chord's 4 notes can be enabled/disabled for each step, for playing back full chords or just selected chord notes.
Changes can be set to reflect across all segments, and segments can be copy/pasted.
It's either chords or notes mode, it doesn't send out both.
There are presets for the chords and presets for the notes section.
That's pretty much it in a nutshell:
https://www.waproduction.com/plugins/vi ... -pro-notes
added: ended up buying loop engine 3 too, which is more of the same but multi-track with more advanced options.

Here is an interesting Arp:
reChord: Arpeggiator $100.
(not the reChorder, no longer available. http://www.artsunmuted.com/rc/rc.html)

Would be great if someone made a complete list of arps with links and comments. I will personally pass on this. Second this motion to show the interest.
