here is a small demo of the sampler. You can set the loaded sample bmp in the top left corner, and it will automatically timestretch timestretch to the daw's tempo.

thanks, still alot to do, but comments like this keep me going
I use reaper for testing.
btw i'm looking for some content made with it. Nothing fancy, an unedited screen recording is fine. any genre.

Hey everyone,
Just pushed a quality-of-life update for the step sequencer, thanks to some great feedback from a user over on the Gearspace forum.
They pointed out that the old workflow for editing steps was pretty clumsy—you couldn't select a step without toggling its state, which is obviously annoying. Making the UI as intuitive as possible is a top priority, so I've completely reworked the mouse controls based on that suggestion.
Here’s how it works now:
Left Click on a step now only toggles it on or off.
Shift + Left Click is the new "edit" function. It selects a step (or multiple steps) without changing its state and instantly makes that step's Edit Group active for tweaking.
Clicking the Track Name (or any empty space in the track row) now clears the entire step selection.
This change separates the action of sequencing from editing. You can now select without toggling, and assigning selected steps to another edit group is still done with the right-click menu.
Thanks again to the community for the valuable input!

It did take me a couple tries to figure out how to get the random mode thing to stick. I think
I kept turning them off. Heh
*it would be helpful to be able to set a preset and sample dir, so u don’t have to browse to them every time.
*Funny thing is, it’s mostly the same people going between both forums.

I've noticed a small bug in the Random Sample mode, I forgot to update the sample pool when you load a new sample when Random Sample is active, this will be fixed in the next update.
As for setting a sample directory, I'm thing to add a general settings button
I'm going also add a "Save as Kit" option that will work like a template, saving all your track settings and sample assignments for easy recall.
In the meantime, don't forget you can also drag and drop samples directly from your computer's file explorer (or Finder) onto any track. The background of the track will light up blue to let you know it's ready for the drop.
If you have a moment, I'd love to see a screen recording of how you're using BeatForge—I'm currently putting together some promotional material. No worries if you don't have time.
Thanks again for the input!

Nothing to show really, just playing around. I’ll let you know if I have something to show.Paul_Pulsonix wrote: Wed Sep 24, 2025 3:08 am I've noticed a small bug in the Random Sample mode, I forgot to update the sample pool when you load a new sample when Random Sample is active, this will be fixed in the next update.

Just wanted to share a quick tip on how you can extend the functionality of BeatForge beyond its sample and synth playing. It actually works great as a MIDI sequencer for other VSTi plugins. I've set it up here to drive Toontrack Ezdrummer, and it's super easy to get going.
Check out this short video demonstrating the setup:
BeatForge as sequencer
The process is straightforward:
MIDI Direction: You'll need to change BeatForge's MIDI direction from its default "input" to "output". This tells BeatForge to send MIDI data out to other plugins.
MIDI Channel & Note: Set the MIDI channel within BeatForge. More importantly, you'll need to identify the receiving MIDI note on the plugin you want to trigger (like Ezdrummer in my example). Make sure BeatForge is sending the correct MIDI note to trigger the desired sound in your target plugin.
MIDI Send: Finally, establish a MIDI send connection from BeatForge to the receiving plugin within your DAW.
This opens up a lot of possibilities for controlling your favorite drum machines, synths, or other sample-based instruments with BeatForge's intuitive sequencing capabilities.
Let me know if you have any questions or other creative uses for BeatForge!

Thanks to thatface from the gearspace forum), these 2 new updates are implemented in the new update .
Paint Steps: You can now click and drag your mouse across the sequencer buttons to "paint" steps on or off.
Hold Shift while dragging to select multiple steps, then right-click to edit their properties (hit chance, group, etc.) all at once. Shift doesn't toggle, regular left click does.
Shift Pattern: New << and >> buttons next to the copy/paste controls let you circularly shift the entire pattern in the current bar left or right. This works on multi-selections, so you can easily nudge just your kick and snare against the hats to experiment with the groove. Hold shift to select multiple tracks.
Two small updates to save clicks and keep you in the creative flow. Hope you find them useful.

some more ui updates to make editing easier/faster then before.
while you'on a step button, I added some fast modifier keys that work with the scroll wheel.
Shift : editgroup
Crtl: roll
Alt(windows), Option(mac) chance.
Shift selecting multiple tracks changes every edit now
and double clicking empty space under the last track adds a new track.
edit: almost forgot to mention, i also added an option to play samples backwards, drag the end of the selection in the waveform over the beginning or the other way around, and play around with the nudge to align the peak of the hits, still thinking about a way to make this more user friendly.
