Is there a way to make a MIDI File which is read by old games?

How to do this, that and the other. Share, learn, teach. How did X do that? How can I sound like Y?

hi everyone,

i recently found an older cd rom with custom Duke Nukem 3D maps and there was a custom Midi file. So I wonder myself how can I for example convert a track made in FL Studio e.g. some VSTs like Nexus, Flex etc. to Midi and let it be played in the game?
How does the game know which notes are whiich instruments?

thanks a lot!

The midi file probably contains Program Change commands which set the patch for a channel. If there are no Program Changes, then all channels default to patch 1 which is piano.
