For me, the convenience is a big deal because I wouldn't normally load these on to every channel and it's the culmination of everything working together that creates the 20% improvement in my mixes.
One of the great things in Bitwig is how easily you can group sets of FX and save them as presets. Its easy to create DIY 'channel strips' of multiple plugins, and very quick to be able to add one to a channel. This keeps the convenience (mostly) but adds flexibility too.

In all fairness most DAWs these days can do this....

Has anyone else encountered issues getting side-chains set-up/working with vst3 in Luna on Windows?

You can do it, but it can be kind of difficult to setup. I think you need to use the comp that isn't the extension version or whatever it is called. There is a way to turn it on that is hard to see from what I can remember. It's quick to setup but cumbersome to turn it on...

Right. I had no problems using UAD plugs, but I'd been trying to set-up a simple kick as side-chain to Softube's CL-1B. I could see the kick signal triggering the CL-1B's meter but had no audio
coming out. Then a few crashes when adjusting routing configurations. Currently the whole side-chain implementation seems pretty flaky here.

I see, no I didn't try a third party plugin, only the built in comp.

Studer is typically used for individual tracks to add analog warmth.
Oxide is great for quick, characterful saturation.
Ampex, on the other hand, is explicitly designed for mix bus or mastering purposes.

The mixer in Luna provides exactly what you would typically find in an analog studio. That’s the point.
I'm not sure that quite holds true. Yes one was multi tracks and one was 2 bus. But oxide really is a simpler model of the studer, with maybe a different tone.

However that isn't how you have to use them. You can use them where you like, depending on what you think is best.

I might lean into one of them on certain elements, but generally don't use a lot of any tape, except sometimes on buses. (Electronic music)

That said, I've had really good results with Oxide as part of my mastering chain. I like it's tone and find it's great for a small soft clip to help level things out before other parts of my mastering chain come into play.

I think the ampex is a really great plug in, but like many UAD plug ins you may need a more natural/real/acoustic type recording to get the most out of it. I find electronic music doesn't always need the same finesse as a voice or an acoustic guitar.

Supposedly, there are some pretty big new features releasing soon on the next Luna update.

Thank you for mentioning that. I'm looking forward to the announcement and the update itself.

You wouldn't happen to have some kind of insider information to share about what those big new features might be? :D

Some more info:

ARA integration will be in the free version, Hardware Insert is a plugin in Luna Pro

Existing Luna Pro owners get Luna Pro 2.0 for free. It's not clear if Luna Pro 2.0 just adds the hardware insert plugin, or if it adds any other extensions or plugins.
