Sampling old VST, how?

hi guys,
is there a way to sample a vst (i got the legal license) so i can play it in a soundfont or kontakt chromatically? it would be a pain to record each note manually and cut it up.... i never did that and want to sample some old versions of some old VSTs and want to uninstall their crappy vsts (maybe you can guess which i mean) and i want to have a reliable vst to use in future some patches specifically and keep my license, not worth to sell it but the vsts are just unreliable crap.
thanks

Bliss sampler can do that. I’d wait till it’s on sale though.
SampleRobot also, but it’s more expensive.
I’m not sure how (or if) they can work with 32-bit plugins.

thanks. Bliss Sampler seems nice but it seems SampleRobot can do more formats like Kontakt as well? dunno if i need that, or if sfz is sufficient, i have to check which one is easier to use. i dont want to study them much
.
do you know if it samples also the vst like i set it? e.g. if i change the reverb (switch it of) in the vst will it sample then with the reverb off?
Seems SampleRobot never goes on sale... heeavy price.

This is something I do quite often. What you want is called an Auto Sampler
There are multiple options and some have been around for a long time
What you do is load it up, then load your plugin inside of it. Load the preset you want and tell the plugin what key range you want to sample, and what velocity's and then hit start. It will do it's thing and then spit out a preset in a variety of formats and a folder full of samples
Sample Robot is a good one. It's expensive however.
Samplit 2 is also good and I own it. It's been around for a while and only works with VST2 and doesn't work with VST3. If you want to do VST2 only it's a lot cheaper than Sample Robot it will export into multiple formats also including Kontact
My favorite one at the moment is actually included inside of Gig Performer Pro. The pro version of that does a lot of things but it also has a really good Autosampler built in. It makes presets for an open sourced plugin called "Decent Sampler". Decent Sampler is extremely CPU efficient
Should say if you don't want to spend any money and only have a limited amount of things you want to do there is a Semi Automatic Sampler Built into HALion7 that works really well. I say Semi Automatic as you have to trigger the notes yourself via MIDI but it starts and stops the recording process automatically and then names and saves the files. It makes things in HALion7 format but also gives you a pile of WAV files that can be imported into anything
HALion has a really long trial period and it's fully functional so you can can use it to make your samples easily

A while ago i did it manually in my daw, record a few notes per octave, throw'em in recycle, then back to sampler. You can pretty quick after 10 or 20 goes
But I got renoise recently just for it & as it has render to sample feature for sfz, multiple velocity layers, auto-loop the sample, takes about 1 to 2 minutes to render depending on how many keys/velocity layers
Then you can use convertwithmoss to convert it to any other formats

FL Directwave can do this (not very well), and you can only do one preset at a time.

thanks so much for all the replies, i have to check all these products more detailed later but so far it seems SampleRobot is one of the better options to give you authentic velocity layers, automatic sampling + various formats.

Awave Studio (since v12.5) has auto-sampling of VST2 and ext. instruments.

It`s not a bug... it`s a feature!

Create a midi track with all your chosen midi notes on required octaves - route that track to halion and press play .. all will happen automatically.IvyBirds wrote: Tue Sep 30, 2025 9:06 pm This is something I do quite often. What you want is called an Auto Sampler

if your plugins are 32-bit the best option is Extreme Sample Converter(Windows only)
