Needed a controller keyboard and saw one of these for £40 - did a quick bit of research and erm... ahem ...bought it.

Any K4 users out there? Any recommended utilities for editing the sounds (Win2K)?

An impulse buy, but hopefully a good one ( :D or  )

Any input appreciated - thanks! :D

that's a bargain!

there's a semi-decent synth lurking in there too :)

Reading the PDF manual now ... doesn't look too bad in terms of synthesis actually :D

That is a damn good deal. The K4 is a decent synth, too. It may not replace your VST's, but I'll bet you get some useful sounds out of it.

Oh dear, it didn't mention such an accessory in the description, so this thing is useless clearly!

A very nice synth, good buy.
There are some editors for win, i'd say JSynthLib is the best. Done in java though, so it's a bit resource hungry.

I had a K4, but that was years back...

The keyboard was pretty cool, not too soft, not too hard, and the sound was very, very good.

I would consider the sound as "What the Roland D50 tried to do... the K4 delivered". While the D50 needed a buttload of effects to get a decent sound, the K4 has a warm character and - a novum at that time - a really good sounding resonant lowpass filter! - Of course, with today's softsynths, this statement must be taken with some, uhm, you know what I mean. But I was absolutely impressed when I got it, and many samples taken from the K4 in my Ensoniq are still in use from time to time.

The drawback: Playing more than 4 or so notes at once introduced a perceivable delay, so it wasn't really suited for playing straight stuff. Might not be a problem with yours, because I bought it right when it came out... there might have been an update...

Nevertheless, using it as a midi keyboard is a different story (no delays on midi out!), and you get some really great (vintage?) sounds in additions.

Cheers,

;) Urs
