Loop recording and Undo Ctrl-Z behavior -- experience and preference

Once upon a time I would've just installed a ton of DAWs and checked each one. This time I just tried Cubase, S1, Bitwig, and Ableton Live.

I'm generally reasonably sure when I've played something well enough to keep, so when I do, in Live I simply stop the process, and press undo to remove the last clip. This is almost always a partial loop without anything on it. All the clips from the previous record cycles will still be there in their entirety and you can undo/redo through them as you wish. Or you can of course open the take lanes, which I never use unless there's a singer involved.

I far prefer this to the behavior of the other three (if there are ways to change this, I don't know them.) which is to undo the entire recording. I.e., delete all cycles/clips recording while looping.

There are of course ways around this. Don't undo, select the last cycle, delete it and stretch the clip of the previous take to the start boundary, but it's not nearly as quick and simple.

How does your DAW work, and do you have a preference for the Undo -- only last take, or all takes?

And if there are ways to change the behavior in the non-Live DAWs I mentioned, feel free.

Short tip
- look for keyboard shortcut to just delete last take

I run an old Sonar updated 2016 last, but only use Ctrl-Z when a recording session first take fails, so not sure how a full session is handled.
- the setting I use is to replace when overlapping pre-existing
- so when last take that is partial is stopped, previous take has an overlapping part
- this makes it a bit more complicated and cannot just delete last take, have to reverse muted part of previous too that overlapped

This is easy as open take lanes, and delete last take on 'x', but have to select overlapped part and unmute now top take.

This way I have control or it might be a mess.

But would think it would be good if like in Ableton like you described.
- but must be similar handling that is reversed, I guess, that overlapped is muted also unmuted

Overall I would like settings for
- what actions to undo at all, what is in action history then
- what makes a project dirty and asked to save at exit
- and even have presets for these settings, so when recording I have one setting, and when mixing another

It just seems to make sense to me that the last recorded loop was the last action, not the entire sequence of loops. The undo redo was why I never really missed lanes. I rarely if ever comp, preferring to get it on the first take or overdub. All those years of punching in and out I guess.
