That'd still be about £35 they owe me.
How d'you figure that? $499 = £265. Plus VAT is £311.
So a bargain £28 for the Queern's Engerlish in fact
How are they shipping it, hand carried by Jobs' concubines?
Dunno, but tracking one of our systems recently, it went from Korea to Belgrade and back, then Amsterdam, Dublin, then Edinburgh!

An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

I'm using Logic 7 on a G4 1GHz PowerBook and haven't had it crash yet. I've played with the new plug's not quite up my street but good plugs non the less. I don't intend upgrading until I can't run something I need to review.
We're hoping to get a Mac mini in the office to test - give it a try as a DAW with Logic and Garageband and also try it as a Logic node.

I think running Digital Performer on it would be a better choise than Logic 7

Everybody who is interested should keep one thing in mind: it is NOT 500,- resp. 600,- dollars. This thing is built so compact, that you need to bring it to the service center just to add RAM! The cheapest way to get enough RAM (it ships with 256 MB ...) is to order it with more RAM. Now look at the Apple store how much Apple charges for deliver it with 1 GB. (And I think you shouldn't take less for Logic.) And more than 1 GB is not possible in the mini.
Who is really interested should also keep track of Mac-related news sites, to gather opinions from early adopters since it is the first build of a new design.
(Disclaimer: I am a Mac fan. The mini is cute, but it is made for casual users, and for those, who want to taste the Mac-world.)

Someday I'll look back on all this and laugh... until they sedate me.

There are a couple of issues that concern it's use for DAW work. One, the internal drive is a 40GB 4200 RPM 2.5 inch drive. Small, slow, slightly more expensive, and difficult to upgrade by yourself. It only has one RAM slot. You would need to buy a 1GB PC2700 RAM chip to upgrade to the neccessary 1GB for audio work. The RAM it seems can be upgraded easliy. I got this info from this Macworld article.

Well, ya'll have done a good job in dissuading me
One thing I was trying to point out though, was that I would ONLY use it as the host, and maybe one or two of the new plugs. I guess the question then is, if that's all I'm going to use it for, is the difference between 5.5 and 7 all that great to warrant the move?
Nope, I don't think I'll be going Mac any time soon, I simply cannot warrant the upfront costs to move up the Logic ladder, but I still think it'll be a couple more years before I'm satisfied by another host on the PC (I've tried moving and failed, a personal decision, nothing more).

Think Logic NODE... Not DAW... I got rid of my 1.25ghz G4 because it was too slow for Logic... The mini is for people who already have a Dual G5... Or a really old G3, G4 series... It's a second computer!

that the common myth isn't it, that there's no viruses for the Mac.. but every single person I know with a Mac who's been complaining about a slow computer and funny stuff happening to the hard drive all had worms and viruses on their machineJeez wrote:Erm... wouldn't you need a Windows PC if you want to get viruses?spaceman wrote:or a first one for people who just want to go on the internet and get their inbox full of spam and virussesDHR53 wrote:Think Logic NODE... Most problems on Cubase/Nuendo 3 are caused by unstable plugs. People who have crashes like to blame Steinberg for this?! It may be the same for Logic Im not sure. I dont know why people with Steinberg issues and a legit copy dont post them on the official forums, they are very responsive.

Well, my Mac used to be full of viruses. Before I switched to MacOS X. Since then, I havn't seen / heard about any virus or worm. I'm pretty sure that virus infections had been a MacOS 9 thing...spaceman wrote:Jeez wrote:WTF? Which worms and viruses? Seriously - name them.

I've googled for virus and macintosh. First thing coming up is Viruses and the Mac FAQ. What do you think... why's the last update from 2000?!?
MacOS 9 is dead, and so are the Mac viruses. A virus for MacOS X has yet to be seen, especially one of those that do not require the user to run an installer with root permissions...
Cheers,
