I once had the great Exponential Audio Excalibur but then iZotope decided to simply delete it.

What are similar FX plugins, or in general, single plugins you use to turn a source into something more alive, mostly more on the dark or even sinister side?

Excalibur is still available from their 'legacy downloads' page - https://www.izotope.com/en/products/leg ... al%20Audio

Thanks. I had it licensed on a now deleted iLok account and I can't use my license anymore (without getting PACE involved) but even then it would only (maybe) run via Rosetta on my Mac.

you can ask to iLok to restore your license, and even they have to ask to the manufacturer of the software....

I can’t find anything that is particularly close - obviously there are many multi-fx plugins but nothing with similar architecture/ approach

Thanks, I have already contacted iZotope but even if I get a new license, Excalibur is not supported on ARM Macs.

It's a pity and I don't quite understand why they discontinued it (without a replacement).

Excalibur is pretty unique with the feedback routings etc. Not the most intuitive but I haven't found anything to replace it per se since moving to M series Mac. Also while the Exponential Audio UIs weren't the best ever, IMO iZotope's take on their reverb UIs is a few steps backward (smaller fonts, inexplicably removing the realtime frequency meter that I found essential).

I didn't really get along with Excalibur (or it's dickhead developer for that matter), so I never bought it. If I wanted to try and recreate it's effects, I would probably look into one of the battleship modular systems, e.g. Infiltrator, ShaperBox, Hofa System, Multipass etc.

*BEAM from Lunacy might work well too...

*If I had to pick one to do it, I'd go with HOFA system probably...

Maybe take a look at the HY-Plugins effects.

Thanks a lot, will look into them.
I'm currently trying the demo of Unfiltered Audio Byome, it's on sale / $40.

I would say their Equinox reverb which is the new version of Stratus and Symphony all rolled into one plugin with a UI upgrade. It's not Excalibur, but it dos have that Exponential Audio Sound.

To be honest, I always felt they should have been the same plugin in the first place, so I saw this as welcoming move.

Could probably recreate the functionality in most modular environments. I don't know of anything that does things the way Excalibur did. I never thought the sound was particularly engaging, but I do like all things that have free routing.
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.

Excalibur still runs on my machines, on the latest version of Sequoia. With its GUI choice of Tiny or Massive :P
maybe similar (in some ways, functionality possibly) multi effects would be Output Movement, DS Audio Tantra, Devious Machines Infiltrator.
Actually, strangely enough timbre wise, Rhizomatic Synestia might be the closest.
that's possibly a weird call, but in some ways they share a similar pristine quality (from memory). I'm a bit ashamed to say Excalibur is almost unused on my machine.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
