There is a lot of sizzle waiting in the timeline-based DAW functionality looking at the competition. I am pretty sure a lot of users of Cubase, Logic etc. would think of switching to S1 if they would not loose feature A, B, or C that S1 not provides ... yet.

You don't need to introduce a whole new approach just to have some headline features. At least not another one

The competition doesn't have Fender stomping around their office telling everyone how the future is going to go.

I miss when Presonus would tease days before a major release and would do a livestream celebration and reveal...

What would be the result of this Frankensteinish hodgepodge? Jack of all trades, master of none?

In fact, my intention was to say that Presonus should focus on the linear DAW functionality.

Ah, okay, we can agree on that. :)

Dear PreSonus and Studio One family,

Since PreSonus became part of Fender in 2021, we’ve been working to bring all PreSonus accounts into the Fender system — an important step toward creating a unified experience across both brands.
Things nobody asked for since 2021 :clown:

Presonus needs to focus on the browser and incorporate Track Presets and the ability to tag user presets, and make this all make sense in a more streamlined way. There's a huge disconnect from Track presets vs regular presets, they need to do a much better job in marrying the two when selecting and choosing sounds.

Shouldn't be a hard one to figure out after this many years without a proper browser.

The browser is still the only one I have used that can play a track/sample as if it was on a track and have real time vst's process the audio. Ableton's browser cannot do this, its weird people think the browser is the weak point. Actually the browser makes S1 a low latency vst3/aux wav player which is better than all the other players available. I can even use tuners and "key finders" on mixes while having the audio go through my headphone sim.. TS and slicing are its real core issues compared to Ableton which is what I compare DAWS with.

I've owned since v5 but didn't really use it until v7.

Tried to make a go of it but ultimately it's not entirely my cup of tea (though I find it a quite live-with-able DAW). No disrespect to anyone who rocks with it.

The updates really failed to live up to the hype, though (as many accurately predicted). Mackie Tracktion vibes. :dog:

Best thing it's got going for it (IMO, of course) is that Lukas guy. (His scripts, at least.)

I'm not understanding properly - can you point me to how you achieve this in the S1 browser alone please (I'm still on v6 - and staying for the foreseeable).

It passes the browser audio through master bus. So if you have plugins on the master bus you audition through them.
Different DAWs have different system.
Cubase and Logic are also the same.

Ableton Live uses a different bus for the browser so no audition through master effects. Which is bad because if you have room correction or headphone room simulation on your master bus you can not audition through it. Unless you do some virtual routing which causes delay and not practical.

Got it. Indeed, and thanks.

Something I also do in S1 and have been doing in Cubase's MediaBay via the Control Room, for auditioning/monitoring, for some years now... the response I quoted sounded like it was saying the S1 browser was 'unique' in being able to do this, via some special mechanism... maybe in just his experience...
