Need some advice, preferably from Industrial/EBM artists...

relapsed -- great track. Chord progression sounds very familiar -- reminds me of something by Juno Reaktor (Samurai???). Vocals are excellent, btw.

Thanks a lot bones, you like it more than I do! If you really like it though tell the guys over at metropolis about it.BONES wrote:This track f**king rocks! Seriously, this is the best song I have ever heard from KVR. The mix could be clearer but it takes me back to the glory days. Sort of reminds me of Placebo Effect in the early/mid '90's. I f**king love it! All it needs is a bit of a clean-up - EQ, perhaps smarter use of other effects and maybe a few tweaks of some of the sounds.
But hey, I just got back from the studio, spent 6 hours observing and speaking with an absolute studio genious. Answered a lot of my questions, I feel like my eyes have really been opened on a few issues, and you guys helped me figure out what to ask him about as well. Thanks for the friendly and helpful posts.

The track is really good imo as well. Basicly I only had problems with the intro which sounded to "cheap" (sound and melody wise), the rest of it is a really good track that just needs better production (IE: mixing and sound-desicions need to be reconsidered). Thanks for the critique, I really am taking it to heart and will be going back to work on it tomorrow with some new ideas.stefancrs wrote:The track is really good imo as well. If you ever want a remix of some track, let me know. I make dancey ebm:ish futurepop:ish remixes usually, but I'm ofcourse open for suggestions. All I'd need would be the vocals (and if you state the bpm that would make things easier for a lazy guy like me).relapsed wrote:Thanks for the critique, I really am taking it to heart and will be going back to work on it tomorrow with some new ideas.stefancrs wrote:The track is really good imo as well. You mentionend before that you have digitech vocal processor? Vocal 300? You should record vocals dry without effects and use software effects when mixing. Never record vocals with effects. Or did I misunderstood? I use hardware effects only in live and when practising. Hmm, or are there other opinions here in KVR?One thing I know I need is a better vocal effects processor and a real time vocoder
Like many have said, it is not about hardware or software... its about mixing. To me it seems that mixing is artform its own which I still cant properly undestood.
Anyway I have Supernova2, KorgMS2000R, WaldorfmicroQ,
Roland jx-305. I usually first get in the mood with hardware synths but in the end I replace them with software because its so easy to work and adjust them.
Even I use software, I propably continue buing and playing with hardware, because of inspiration.

Wow! Those vocals are spot on for the genre. Reminds me of X Marks The Pedwalk.

I listen to your song...I like it very much! Great vocals... Somebody said that it sounds like you have made bad choises with instruments. I think that instrumets you have chosen are right but they lack a little bit brutality that this kind of music needs. I think problem is Hypersonic... Hypersonic is great but sounds that it provides are too nice and clean... do those same things with some other synths.
Get rid of hypersonic
Anyway, I liked the composing and song overall...great work!

I'm with you on this. I know exactly what they do and how to use 'em, I just don't hear any benefit in the results. Mind you, using distortion totally obviates teh need for compression so maybe that's why.relapsed wrote:Truth is I really don't know much about why compressors are so important, I know a little about what they do but I don't get it I guess.
I always go through the vocal track in Cool Edit and erase anything that is not the vocal itself - breathing, pops, noises - everything. It takes ages but if you don't do it your distortion effect will bring it all to the surface. Besdies, I think the vocal sounds fine. In fact it sounds exactly like :wumpscut:, which is no bad thing. Also the reason the vocals sound kinda muddy is I had an EQ on the vocal tracks with the high frequencies turned down to make it more playable loud because there were a few noises in the vocal tracks that were not pleasant to the ear at times.

You should listen to some of the older :W: stuff to see where the comparison might come from.
Try "Bunker Gate 7" or "Music for a Slaughtering Tribe" for examples.
Actually, your vocals are probably more aligned to something like God Module, Suicide Commando, Cenobita Funker Vogt, or Aghast View - with a bit of NIN thrown in. At least to my ears
Don't change 'em - they work well
