macOS 26 Tahoe is there - Can I upgrade?

Im not a Logic Pro user anymore so I don't have that invincible feeling I used to during the betas but I still check and look for your posts in particular to see how it's going hah.

I moved back to Cubase Pro around the end of 2021 (I think?). Think Ventura was the last one I ran as a beta, and of course, that was the ONE TIME I ever had issues with one particular brand of plugins (which were fixed on release day, they don't run the betas). Nowadays I usually wait until the release candidates drop, but Cubase is probably good to go from the start.

Why would it be so urgent to switch to Tahoe ?? It doesn't bring anything new for music production or audio work, and you take the risk to have to deal with issues not yet fixed...Never upgrade before several months

you can update whenever you want.

i've been running tahoe since developer beta 1, and continued to work (in logic pro). a few bumps in the road but currently, under the formal tahoe release... everything is great.

Both Bitwig and Arturia recommend not upgrading yet.

There’s also all the “MacOS Vista” and “Liquid Ass” memes too of course, so you can enjoy Tahoe without upgrading

I upgraded an old machine from Big Sur. I can't say I like the liquid glass styling, the bevelled edges combined with nested Finder areas make for a beetle/insect-like appearance in dark mode. In general UI design has long been trending towards a feeling of openness, but this reintroduces visual clutter/noise.

In any Tahoe thread with musicians it should be mentioned that firewire is depreciated. Personally I've recently regulated my FF800 to ADAT slave, but it should be noted that although it can be addressed as class compliant in standalone all routing to the ten physical inputs and ten outs has to be done in the software, which will not work on Tahoe. I'm not upgrading for years for this reason.

Exactly twice have I moved quickly to upgrade a Mac OS. One was to "Snow Leopard", something about x64 and I think a Kontakt version which used it (4?), though I'm fuzzy on that today; the other was I went to Sonoma OS because here 13.x was screwy with built in audio, meaning switching from Cubase whether it was the external interface or built-in to anything else created a bizarre and fatal issue here. Cubase believed in either case some nonsense about 'the hardware had been removed'. Also a known issue appeared with internet, eg., YouTube audio. I went to I think the last days of the public beta which fixed all that. So my experiences have led me to be suspicious re Apple OS.

Sequoia has been pretty good for me. I think I'll camp here until it's not supported anymore.

Not necessarily. I’ve seen an awful lot of AI slop passed off as human-made, because saying you got a computer to do it for you can come across as lazy, and/or cheating.

Which, yes, it is.
