It is not about irritating.
They changed the sound and tried selling it as better sound, well, it is a matter of taste though.
8 compared to 7 sounds pretty eqed, maybe they tried to achieve a more in the face sound.
7 is the best version imo.
If you prefer 8, fine.
If you prefer 9, even finer.
And Mr, Juenke, the post said "why so many", so you are obviously are minority, an accepted minority. 8 was a controversial upgrade.

that's surprising. when i moved to 8, i did so because it sounded better A-B'd with 7. and i'd expect the same between 8 & 9 (i uninstalled 8 as i'd moved to a different piano plugin, but now curious about 8 vs 9).
i guess it's subjective, and in any case, most piano plugins sound like... pianos.

exactly, it is subjective? € 29 really isn't that much, but on the other hand for me there is no reason to upgrade after the weak release of 8 and 7,6,5 was considered a great piano plugin when it was released and these versions still are.
Sometimes upgrades are no improvements, maybe a bit different, but no improvement for everyone.

Download and install yourself and find out yourself what you like better, I am not you dad, nor your mentor. You act like a small kid who is angry cuz someone doesn't like the same toy you like, omg, is your brain really programmed to "everyone must like the same things"?!
btw samples??? lol
Pianoteq do not even use samples lol

I actually have and use Pianoteq a lot, because it's quite good.DCrown wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 4:01 pmWhy should I post audio examples.martinjuenke wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 3:59 pmJust post your audio samples or keep quiet, please!DCrown wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 3:50 pm It is not about irritating.

I upgraded a couple of times and it was always worth it.
Therefore I kindly ask you to prove your statements (which I can not agree to) or keep quiet.

Got it, and I can see where people would prefer that. It’s usually easier to add tone/EQ than it is to remove it.DCrown wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 3:50 pm It is not about irritating.

A different opinion doesn't need a proof, it is just a different opinion. And btw not everyone likes "The Rolling Stones "too, could you accept that?martinjuenke wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 4:05 pmI actually have and use Pianoteq a lot, because it's quite good.DCrown wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 4:01 pm???? Sorry, didn’t mean to start a flame war!
Guys, lighten up. We’re just talking about piano preferences. Nobody needs to “prove” their opinion.

Each new version of Pianoteq improves the physical model in some way.
Version 8 improved the model of how the strings vibrate. Version 9 improves the model of the soundboard.
If you prefer version 7, it’s because you prefer the sound of less accurate physics. That’s fine, and I suppose this preference is subjective, as some have suggested. But it is not subjective that older versions calculate less accurate sound to real-world behavior.
What Modartt is NOT doing is merely adding EQ or other blackbox processing. Any sound changes you hear are the results of equations that model physical interactions between materials of specific shapes and sizes.
It is true that there isn’t much difference in sound between version 8 and 9. This isn’t because Modartt is “running out of ideas.” It is because the model is so refined at this point that there is little room for improvement, and the changes at this point are taking it from 99.999% accuracy to 99.9999% accuracy.

I suspect it's partially dependent on the packs you use too. Some things subjectively go through a trade off where the attack may improve but the tone does not or vice versa (or other aspects as well. I've been using since Version 4 and have enjoyed each upgrade. Version 8 was a fantastic upgrade especially for the electric pianos. And version 9 is a further improvement of those. And up until now, every version upgrade gave me the missing packs justifying the wait for it. My personal favorite of the pianos I use regularly have been the Bechsteins, albeit three different ones over the course of the upgrades. And while the Bechstein improvement seems subtle to me, I've noticed the SteinwayNY is more pronounced and I'm n finding I'm playing it more the last couple of days. But the MKII electrics are quite a bit better IMO, even if it's just subtlety so in reality. This upgrade talks about the soundboard itself and that would be a very subjective and subtle thing on how we perceive it.cryophonik wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 3:34 pm Why do so many people prefer v7 over v8? One other thing to be aware of is that where you use it in your tracks/setups... Since you can have all versions installed, it doesn't replace those older uses with the latest version. So install them knowing you will have to manually replace them in each instance so you don't have to figure out what you originally used and replicate it from scratch after preemptively uninstalling the old versions.

That’s good to hear because I’ll probably purchase the EPs next, although I’ll probably wait for the BF sale since I already have plenty of other EPs so there’s no hurry.BBFG# wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 4:59 pm Version 8 was a fantastic upgrade especially for the electric pianos. You can download and install the previous versions v5, v6. v7, v8 from within the "Downloads" page of your account to compare. The link for the previous installers is just under the main v9 download. (just 50 MB or less per installation.)cryophonik wrote: Sat Oct 18, 2025 3:34 pm Why do so many people prefer v7 over v8? I bought in at v8 so I’ve never used v7.
They can all be installed in parallel on the same device. That way, you can compare each instrument within each version of Pianoteq to hear their progress over the years. (Your same current Pianoteq licence should also work for all previous versions.)

I don't mind paying a very reasonable 29 Euros to upgrade from one major version to the next.
That is one of the more generous upgrade fees available as compared to many other developers.
And since there is a demo version also available, anyone paying that would already know exactly what they were getting for that. No reason to complain, imho.
