God that's boring.

At least it's cheap boring. I got the full size UBXa and it's mostly more expensive boring if I'm honest. It's got a few good sounds in it, not completely useless, but I absolutely and in-depth now know why I was never wowed by OBXas in the past. It used to be a passing boredom back in the 80s, now it's an active boredom. More voices of boring still equals boring. . If X=X squared, then X must = zero (if I remember my maths correctly) with X being my level of interest in Oberheim sound. Though obvs if you have big hair and spandex pants, then Oberheim must be your thing.

Still, it could have been worse - I could've spent half a mortgage, bought an OBX8 and been overwhelmingly bored. I thank Uli for that - he lets me waste less of my money on passing fads

Their focus on these itty-bitty things in the last 6 months or so has left me feeling that their interest in this market might be waning. Everything is more expensive these days so it might just be that they are no longer able to hit their desired price points for more complex synths and price is everything to them.

Not surprised. I suppose we'll see. I would be willing to bet, at some point, that the clones will start to fall off some as people come to the same realization that many of us who at one point owned many originals did. That is, the legend that lives in your mind before you get the synth comes out as something of a bit of the same flavor as all of the other synths after a while.

That's not to say that there cannot be important circuit or architectural differences, only that the effect of such differences has to be weighed against the budget.

With originals, there will always be collectors. The clones, less so.

The VCS looks expensive to produce and is very out of touch in a modern world. I would guess that the demand isn't as widespread as some would like to believe. It's musical strengths are largely its technical weakness.

They are building a new factory, so I guess everything will start coming out faster soon. Their stock levels are always low, so hopefully it will improve.

There is so much speculation about their products on the net, I wouldn't take to much notice...
