At the moment, I'm back on Linux ("Big Linux" distro from Brazil, based on Manjaro with KDE Plasma desktop). It only took 5 minutes to install that, compared to 80 minutes for Windows 11 Pro on the same hardware. Plus I didn't have to spend nearly as much time on post-install configuration and app installations on Linux compared to Windows. Bah!

I will but...I want to update from Windows 10 so I don't have to reinstall everything, and my Windows 10 DAW is (for historical reasons) in a weird state (CSM not UEFI BIOS, MBR not GPT disks, no recovery partition) - when I get them cleaned up (tedious as it should be quite easy), I'll do it.

I have been on windows forever, currently win 11. I recently bought a keyboard with an onboard audio interface and wanted to integrate it into my setup. This is where windows falls down the most, its poor built in midi and audio capabilities. On a Mac you create an aggregate interface and run two audio interfaces with ease, on windows its only possible using asio4all, which is less than optimal. Linux now has pipewire which makes it theoretically possible, but has proved harder than I thought it would be. Windows is supposed to have inbuilt multiclient midi by the end of this year, so I guess i will wait and see if it becomes viable, if not, I will give in and buy a Mac.

I've been using linux since '94, admining since '95 to 2008. I still do not want to use it on desktop or other than ssh to shell and run Irssi to get to IRC on it

Using Linux since 1998, but not for audio then.
I always maintained my Windows audio PC with Cubase until Windows decided to blow this thing up after a faulty (and forced) update. I was angry. So I made the audio move to Linux too and cannot be happier.
I have a desktop PC and I built in a RME Raydat PCIe card, which works flawlessly with Linux. This card can host 4 ADAT converters/devices up to 32 channels. It runs very stable and you can use the high-end converters of your choice for external gear or recordings.
Besides that, there are many really good native linux vst3 plugins out there already and it is getting more and more every month. I do not miss anything.

I have been really indecisive the past few weeks with a lot of Linux distro-hopping, and reinstalling Windows 11 Pro on one drive or another in my desktop PC. Here are some more notes from a madman:

On a mechanical (spinny) drive, Windows 11 is just too noisy for my taste, with so much more drive activity compared to most Linux distros I have run from the same drive, even after disabling search indexing and SysMain (which used to be called SuperFetch). Therefore I have Windows installed on a 2TB NVME at the moment, even though that's the smaller of the two drives in my desktop PC (the other is a 4TB spinny drive).

However, I'll report that 25H2 takes a lot less time to install compared to 24H2: under 35 minutes compared to about 80 minutes. Still not as quick as a 5 to 10 minute Linux installation, though.

I think I will leave this installation in place, no matter what Linux distro-hopping I do on the other drive.

Oh. Well.
Tried various linux distros now and Mint is the easiest to get around for me BUT it is STUCK at 1024X768 because i had to boot into Safe mode since it refuses to activate my GPU (Amd 9060XT) in normal startup mode so it FREEZES with the Mint logo on the screen after the soundcard has been enabled on bootup.

I had no issues installing and set up bitwig except for that i could'nt see the whole screen because of the 1024 resolution but everything else worked.

I had the same issue with Ubuntu Studio as i had in Mint.

Then i found a Distro that supports my New AMD GPU BUT this time i couldn't install Bitwig at all on that one no matter if i tried Flatpak version or the deb version.

This is getting really frustrating. 1 Linux version works perfectly with Bitwig and the other doesn't but that one works with my GPU and boots up normally with the correct Screen resolution.

Now on to Zorin OS and see if that one will work out of the box

I found the original plans for Windows Recall to be unacceptable.
Their plans have changed a bit so I decided to keep my windows machine for now.

It's a big desktop pc and last year gave me enough reasons to get a laptop as well, so I figured that's a good moment to make that laptop a Linux machine and get used to that in the meantime.
I'm not using it a lot yet except when travelling but I intend to make it my music machine eventually. Just need to finally get around to making my own synth work on Linux

The windows machine will stick around for now, work/gaming still happens on that ..

Zorin worked perfect with the correct GPU drivers installed and it was just as quick to use as Linux mint since they work more like windows 11 than the other Cryptic Distros's i have tried

I guess I have (temporarily at least) migrated to Mac. Linux is not an option with the amount of plugins and DAWs I'm using. The reason for migrating to Mac was that I am too lazy to re-assemble my Windows computer (after buying new components three years ago), so after two years of not using a computer at all (except my work computer), I decided to buy a Mac Mini M4 Pro in November last year.

Once I'm not lazy anymore (who know when?), I will most likely switch back to Windows 11, but keep my Mac Mini connected to my living room TV.

The reason for migrating to Mac was that I am too lazy to re-assemble my Windows computer (after buying new components three years ago), so after two years of not using a computer at all (except my work computer), I decided to buy a Mac Mini M4 Pro in November last year.

Once I'm not lazy anymore (who know when?), I will most likely switch back to Windows 11, but keep my Mac Mini connected to my living room TV.

I use mostly Hardware and a few of the plugins i own so the Migration to Linux is not a huge deal for me
Happy that i found Zorin that does everything i want so far and works with the newest Amd Gpu right after install.

I was also thinking about Migrating to Mac but i am used to PC Hardware and I prefer to Build my PC's to get as much power as i can get for less money so i ended up upgrading my PC and Today i Installed Linux.

I have now set it up the way i want it with U-he Zebra HZ, Diva and Repro And Tal J-8 and Uno LX + the Juno Chorus plugin and all my Hardware synths are also set up so they are ready to go just like my vst's

I wish more developers would jump over to linux too Instead of only Supporting WindBlows or Mac.

Great you got all to work in Zorin. I don't know about amd graphic cards, but there usually is a setting that is called "additional drivers" that is used to install correct nvidia drivers in Ubuntu and Mint. Out of the box it is just some default linux graphic drivers. Don't know if you did this? Anyway....

I have a Amd 9060 XT that is a very new GPU on the market and the issue i found with many distro's was that they don't use the latest Kernel or Mesa that is needed for the system to boot properly.

So i had to Find a Distro that have the latest kernel and Mesa to get it to work out of the box instead of needing to start it up in safe graphic driver mode that locked it to 1024x768 resolution with no way to change it.
