The Softube Model series synths tend to have a more authentic 'vintage' sound, as if you're playing a real fifty-year-old synth.

Part of that comes from the extended features and built-in FX, of course, but I think it goes beyond that. It reminds me of the modern recreations of classic hardware synths, like the Sequential OB-6 and Prophet-6. Those synths sound great, but they don't quite capture the subtle imperfections of the old beasts, I think.

Maybe the u-he and Synapse teams decided that a modern, polished analog sound is more in demand than a super-authentic emulation? Anyway, it's cool to have both options!
The 'vintage feel' is more achievable in say, Obsession, where each voice can be individually adjusted to get the imperfections. I personally do a similar thing in Dune. Though it doesn't work the same way, it does add a more 'analogue' vibe to the sound.

I think Repro 5 is extremely accurate--practically a perfect Prophet 5 construction kit for all intents and purposes, with different models of oscillators and filters to choose from. The "P5 old" model might achieve what you're looking for. Softube sounds good, but the features are limited to that of the hardware. To me it sounds like there's noise being added, and adding a subtle amount of noise into a Repro 5 patch achieves a similar sound to me.

I've always liked Synapse, so I'm eager to check this one out. I appreciate that it's not a common choice of hardware emulation.

OK, it's good. I had absolutely zero plans to buy any analog emu anytime soon (if ever again), but this one is good (and different).

Sounds fabulous. What with all the other great releases this month an intro price might help.
The smallest size is still too large for me on my 4K monitor (with mac native scaling) and not hi-dpi pixel crisp.

Oh no! I didn't want to like it. But it sounds really good.
Lotsa money for "just another analog".
The good thing is: There is no intro price that I could miss. :hihi:

I see that Genetics made it into the new synth again, massive respect and thanks to the devs for keeping this brilliant concept alive :tu: However, once more it’s tucked away in the background, and having to constantly jump back and forth whenever I want to refine or fine-tune a generated patch really disrupts the creative flow. Genetics is such a powerful sound design tool, but its current placement makes iterative work unnecessarily cumbersome. Richard, please consider a streamlined version. Maybe a slim, collapsible header bar with just the amount knob and a generate dice, or something that keeps it accessible during patch development. And while you’re at it, allowing more than three source patches for the DNA mix would make it exponentially more flexible. Congrats on the new release. An impressive achievement as always

This sounds really good. The bass is fat as hell! Being able to set the init phase for the oscillators separately really helps with making good bass patches. Overall a very characterful synth, quite rough and gritty. That filter is definitely a love/hate thing though. The effects are alright but the phaser's a bit meh IMO.

Some minor gripes: On my 27" 1080p monitor I have to use the small UI size, and at that size the fonts are quite grainy and indistinct, particularly the fonts in the mod matrix and preset browser.

The output runs quite hot. With the initialised patch I can make it clip the DAW just by holding down three notes and putting the resonance to 2.

The scaling on the reverb decay knob is annoying. 80% of the dial goes from 500ms to 5 seconds, with the remaining 20% going from 5 seconds to a minute, making it really awkward to dial in longer times accurately without having to stop playing and hold down the shift key, which is always an annoying workflow hindrance.

A possible bug. With sequenced patches, if I hold down a note and delete a tie after the playhead has passed it, the sequence will stop playing until the playhead returns to the beginning.

Yes. In rare cases this happens with ZIPped content, although it does not happen on any of our PCs under either Win 10 or 11.

For now we switched to an executable, that should hopefully solve the issue.

Good idea! The main reason to have it in the patch browser is simply that all our synths then work the same way. Another is that rack extensions do not support this feature, so for Obsession and The Legend (HZ), which have RE versions, the patch browser was a natural choice since it is not portable to the RE format in the first place.
