I'm pretty clueless on MIDI and would greatly appreciate someone helping me set up things here, either over the phone, or even in person if anyone's in the Northern Virginia area. I have a Roland XV5050 sound module, Sonar3, a Yamaha EZ-AG -- after having recently bought and returned a Ztar -- and Halion, but I'm totally lost and there's no way on earth I'll ever decipher the Roland manual to maket it communicate with the Yamaha EZ-AG. It's clear a lot of stuff needs to be done to be able to use it as a controller effectively, if that's even possible, and I need someone to walk me through those steps. Ideally, in person or over the phone, because I'm too unfamiliar with this whole area to be able to follow the bits and pieces of stuff here from people who know what they're talking about, when I don't. Any takers? PLEASE?

Thanks,
Richard

the best thing you can do is attack i slowely, one piece at a time. GET one bit of kit working, then move to the next, read some midi basics articles from google, and don't be scared :)

Hi Richard,

I replied on this since I saw EZAG in your post.
Welcome to kvr btw. 8)

You do know that the EZ-AG don't send notes off don't you, except when you touch the note off plate.
This makes it allmost impossible to use it directly as a controller for your Roland, or you have to make modifications to the sounds of it (modify sustain, no loop,...)
Another solution is to use EnergyXT as modular host between the EZ and your Roland.
With EXT you can rechannel the six strings to one midi-channel (the EZ sends each string on a separate midi -channel), filter out the fretted notes if you want (velocity 16) and there is a special plug available here to automaticly send notes off.

Hope this helps.
If you have other questions, just ask...
And change the subject to "Advice on using Yamaha EZ-AG as midi controller", you will have more people that jump in here.
