Are AI-Generated Songs Ethical? Let's Talk About It.

I know I'm late to the party but I'm gonna give my 2 cents anyway.
I've been writing my own music since 1977 so I have no need to write a song using AI. However, I do use AI for my vocals because, quite honestly, I think my voice is crap.
Here is a sample of one of my AI vocal tunes.

For one thing, on my own, I could never do all those voices, especially the growl vocals. I think this brings a little spice to my music that was missing because of my lackluster vocal performances.
As far as whether or not I think it's ethical to write AI songs, nobody made me God so who am I to say? I say live and let live. Besides, have you heard some of these AI generated tunes?
Trust me, they won't be putting real songwriters out of business anytime soon.

Mmhh... that may be true. But I've heard this kind of "spice" awagtunes wrote: Sat Nov 01, 2025 10:40 pm

thousand times before. Wouldn't it be much more original and
also much more satisfying for you if you tried "growl vocals" or
other vocals you sang yourself?
The internet is full of all kinds of vocal styles – but yours are
unique. Because only you can sound like "wagtunes". Why don't
you use this advantage?
I wish we had a little more self-confidence, we would experiment
more with our own unique vocals, we would appreciate our own
individual way of expressing ourselves more!
Wagtunes: Where is your own growling?
Well, it's not about God. It's about us humans on this planet. It'swagtunes wrote: Sat Nov 01, 2025 10:40 pm As far as whether or not I think it's ethical to write AI songs, nobody made me God so who am I to say? I say live and let live. Besides, have you heard some of these AI generated tunes?

about how we use our creative power. It's about whether we
outsource creativity to machines. Everyone should form their own
opinion on that.
Of course, it's still easy to tell which songs are AI-generated and
which aren't. But the development cycles in digital technology—
especially in software—are extremely fast. The next generation of
AI will make it more difficult.
In a very short time, it will be impossible to distinguish AI-generated
content from human-generated content. Whether it's paintings,
poems, prose, or music. Therefore, now is the time to start
thinking about this development. In a few years, it will be too late.

May I ask, which AI have you used? Looking for suggestions. I admit I am a bit daunted by all the competing services and don't have time to try them all, so would appreciate the benefit of your experience here. I can sing both lead and backing passably, but it gets a bit boring/samey after a while as it's always my voice. (Imagine showing up at a party and everyone there is yourself!) I have hired freelancers to get different voices in the backing, usually with good results, but it takes time to steer them, and the costs add up.wagtunes wrote: Sat Nov 01, 2025 10:40 pm I know I'm late to the party but I'm gonna give my 2 cents anyway.

So what I'm looking for is something that lets me swap someone else's voice, but keeping my lyrics and my notes.
If I just want to do oos and aahs, I can sing harmonies, midi-fy my voice with Melodyne and feed the midi into some vocal library I already own, works fine.
But when lyrics are involved, ugh.
There are text to audio AI services, but those I've seen result in some AI melody out of nowhere - something you have to build a song around, not something you slot into your own existing song, so no thank you.
I recently got EastWest's Philharmonic Choir on sale, for the World Builder; the sound is amazing (especially the childrens' choir - magic) but OMG -- from messing around for an hour, watching a few tutorial videos and skimming the manual, the Word Builder is like getting a master's degree and then tweaking endlessly, seems like a titanic effort that is just no fun, a purely technical undertaking with none of the buzz of singing. Videos about Synthesizer V suggest it is the same. Not dissing them, I just lack the time and patience myself. If I'm going to bite the bullet and go with artificial vocals, they have to both sound good and be fast and easy to produce. Maybe I'm looking for a panacea that doesn't exist yet?
So again, is there anything that keeps the original lyrics, melody and basic dynamics, and only replaces the voice itself? Grateful for any recommendations.
