That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking. Especially since they have ms-20 filter models in this one. You’d think it would be worth updating the ms-20 which is so old and kinda bland.aMUSEd wrote: Wed Oct 29, 2025 9:11 pm I wish they would update the MS-20 now to their new level of DSP

I just read the KVR release description that said the PS-3300 is like having 144 MS-20's? How do they arrive at that? Because each of the three units has 48 voice polyphony or something? And if they say they have 144 MS-20's in one, then they should definitely be able to upgrade their plugin that has 1 of them in it!Echoes in the Attic wrote: Thu Oct 30, 2025 12:51 amThat’s exactly what I’ve been thinking. Correct, PS-3300 has three separate voice boards that are like mini MS-20s, then multiplied 48 times, once for each key (divide down technique). The envelope is not the same as on MS-20, and filter is behaving much more politely than on MS-20, so it's not exactly identical.

It's mostly the first two albums (Opalescent and Contact Note) that were done with the Trinity and a crappy PC, from what I remember from interviews. And they both sound incredible...

Didn't they include both options for the filter? One being the MS-20? So shouldn't it behave the same if it's the MS-20 model?EvilDragon wrote: Thu Oct 30, 2025 9:25 pm Correct, PS-3300 has three separate voice boards that are like mini MS-20s, then multiplied 48 times, once for each key (divide down technique). As a side point, I'm not sure where the KVR article saw "KORG" saying that. I wrote the official text for the website and press releases, and that's not what I wrote!Echoes in the Attic wrote: Thu Oct 30, 2025 9:11 pm I just read the KVR release description that said the PS-3300 is like having 144 MS-20's? To expand on what Evil Dragon writes above, each of the three panels has individual voice circuits for each note (on the original, F1 through E5). But, those voice circuits are really quite different from the MS-20.
The "Signal Generators" use top-octave dividers instead of individual VCOs; the envelope is a different design, as Evil Dragon noted; and while the filter shares part of the "Korg 35" design, it has a really unusual resonance implementation. (For the curious, instead of having an external feedback path, it uses an extra resistor-capacitor pair inside the filter itself, dampening it like an extra pole.) In the software, we offer a choice between this unique filter and the MS-20 filter, using our latest MS-20 lowpass model from the multi/poly.

I am exactly the same. I had a Trinity, we did our earliest NOVAkILL recordings with it , but I have absolutely no desire to have it in software. I had it because it was an incredibly powerful all-in-one workstation, a proper DAW with the sampling and MOSS boards, I did not have it because it had lots of amazing, irreplaceable sounds or anything unique about the way it sounded. It did a great job for me/us, over many years but it was always just a tool.Aloysius wrote: Wed Oct 29, 2025 4:26 amI didn't want to spend money on the upgrade. In the end it wasn't too hard to pass. I've given everything a fair go now and it's just not doing it for me. The upgrade package is nice enough but there's nothing special there to temp my wallet. If I owned a Trinity I'm sure I'd be very excited to get a software version of it but I don't and I can't see myself ever wanting one either.

I didn't even notice the switch it's so small, lol.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Thu Oct 30, 2025 9:46 pmDidn't they include both options for the filter? One being the MS-20? So shouldn't it behave the same if it's the MS-20 model?
Yeah, it's gnarly alright.

Would be great to update the MS-20 plugin with all new DSP tech, have an option for "legacy mode" to retain patch compatibility, etc.danatkorg wrote: Thu Oct 30, 2025 10:07 pmIn the software, we offer a choice between this unique filter and the MS-20 filter, using our latest MS-20 lowpass model from the multi/poly.

Any chance you’ll add the option to use the Trinity plugin to edit the hardware (specifically the Tr-rack)?

My group did the PS-3300, so I'm not an expert on the Trinity plug-in. However, adding SysEx editor capabilities sounds like it would be a pretty major change. It looks like Sound Quest still offers a TR-Rack editor, though! https://squest.com/Products/MidiQuest13 ... index.html

TBH the PS3300 didn't really interest me, as anything I've heard of the real thing was quite reticent, tame filters in comparison, though obvs having similar sonic footprint as the MS20. But having heard Dan confirm there's option for the latest MS20 filters
, it suddenly interests me. Thanks for the info
. Will have to demo it. Also have to demo that GForce Maps thingy, so dunno when I'll get around to it, but it's on the urgent to-do list now.
I must desist with my MS20 obsession. I'll now have a real mk1 MS20, a Behringer K2 mki, will be buying the K2 mkii shortly, the old Korg legacy MS20, and I suspect will buy this PS3300 which will be an MS20 on steroids. I suspect I actually need a real Korg MS20 full-size remake as well, but FFS how many MS20s do I need?
