Where are you getting this version 8 stuff from? Are you just making it up from whole cloth?

The fact of the matter is PreSonus could give Studio One Pro any version number they want, and it wouldn't make any difference to the upgrade plan. If your year of free upgrades is active when the new version is released—regardless of its version number—you will get the upgrade for free, and you will have a perpetual license for that version.

ut this year of updates plan with a 3-4 updates per year is also completely new in the history of Studio One. So you cannot go by what has happened in the past.

The reason why they would release a pure maintenance update right before a major feature upgrade is so existing users can get bugfixes for their licensed version, regardless of whether their upgrade plan is active or not. You haven't seen them do that in the past because it wasn't relevant in the past. This would be a new practice to address a new problem that didn't exist before now.

Based on my internal conversations and other telemetry from other collegues I have been able to gather - I am not putting much stock in any "3-4" updates per year stuff now.

We are heading into Black Friday/Cyber Season and this time of year is generally not reserved for any major statements from any of the major DAW makers. It's sales, hype and noise.

Makes no sense (from a marketing angle at least) whatsoever to try and wedge your message into the next 6 weeks or so.

Presonus has always been very structured and precise with their dev work - and for them to shove another update out there so soon after this one - would be very out of sorts for them.

Always happy to be really wrong here - but I do not think I am.

Have you had any conversations with anyone inside of PreSonus?

I'd also point out that PreSonus seems to do their sales later, towards the end of December into early January. Besides, we're still a month away from Black Friday. My assumption is that the 7.2.3 maintenance release was a bit of housekeeping for all users, just before the major release, so not to screw over people whose upgrades have already expired. I think it will be coming early November.

I do have a few internal contacts and several key externals but everyone is under NDA. They are not handing over a release calendar or discussing any detail on any release.

But if you ask the right question - the right way - you can pick up a nugget here and there.

That I am not putting much stock in any "3 major updates per year" stuff right now.

That’s actually just a conclusion. What information did you learn that led you to that conclusion?

All I can add is that I value my contacts and cannot specifically state - here in this open forum - why I have drawn this conclusion.

Take from this - what you will.

Just a friendly hint that the information you want is in the link right at the beginning of this thread. Don’t expect anything more convenient than that!

dawproject support sadly still is completely bugged when it comes to VST2 and AudioUnit. Quite sad... I've reported all the detailed problems even on coder level months ago...

It completely fails to load exports from Bitwig... Aren't these companies communicating? The support also was very buggy since introduction.

I'm still on 6 Pro but considering taking advantage of current $95ish pricing to upgrade. Seeing a lot of frustration with the limited number of upgrades in the past year, so not to stir up a bee's nest ... but anyone who is happy they upgraded and would recommend it?

What are the clear improvements by now in v7 Pro? Not instruments or content additions, but improvements. I'm on a Mac. Are the performance enhancements noticeable 6 to 7?

I asked GPT about the differences and this came up, "Enhanced ARA 2.0 integration, with broader plugin support and improved stability" ... is that generally correct?

Version 7.2 introduced efficiency core processing. There is a huge improvement on songs that push your CPU limit on version 6. If you have run out of CPU on a song in version 6, you should be able to play it without getting any pops or dropouts in version 7.2, and have headroom to spare.

Not that I can see. That reads like changelog boilerplate. ARA 2.0, plugin support, and stability were already rock solid. So maybe they’re better, but I don’t know how you would judge that. Perhaps there are some plugins that I don’t use that crash in version 6, but not in version 7?

Anyways, my advice would be to buy the upgrade at 30% off now, (which, for the past several years, is the most discount PreSonus gives) but don’t register it until at least the next update and the new year.
