2025: A Year in Gear (What You've Bought or Want to Buy in 2025)

With Silhouette and NUSS hitting this year, I've found myself wanting more mixing options. Specifically being able to place multiple audio sources in the stereo field and then move them around. Silhouette is cool but its weird lurching modulation isn't well suited for slow ambient swirls.
After looking at a lot of options, and spending some time figuring out what Toppobrillo Matrixplexer can and can't do, I realized... CVilization mode 4 does exactly what I want to do. Plus when I had one, I used to use it for other purposes as well (waveshaping, fancy AM, etc.) Plus, its matrix mixer has an "advanced feature" for rotating the inputs and/or outputs relative to the matrix settings, using CV -- more opportunity for movement and variations.
I liked CVil and found it nice and inutive to work with, as long as I avoided modes 2 & 3 and the matrix mixer's quantization settings. I only let go of it because, at the time, I felt like I only needed really simple mixing options.
Another thing I found was Nekyia Root Locus. It's a VCFQ-inspired filter that can self-oscillate, can be switched into LFO range, and its four mode outputs become quadrature outputs. It also has a 2-input crossfader which might be fun for feedback stuff, and a Blades-like CVable mode output. A quadrature LFO is pretty useful for panning/mixing stuff around circularly. Multimod can do that too, but I often want it for audio processing instead.
I think right now I'm just going for CVilization again, and then I'll consider also making room for Root Locus...

That Root Locus looks really cool. I love a pingable filter, ala VCFQ. It appears to share a lot in common with Toppobrillo's Multifilter, which I also love.
CVz is so freaking useful. These days I rarely use anything other than the default mode, so I have all the color codes and encoder button functions memorized. I have all of my most used settings setup with Program Change slots via the select bus features, but I'm using my Octatrack or Bitwig to trigger those patch changes. It's an incredible tool for live performance but I can imagine it's equally remarkable for making animated mixes.

I've been working on a 'nice to have' rack on modulargrid:

Watching videos its hard not no start dreaming in modular.
The most immediate possibility would be to replace ENVY with one or two Dnipro Krait(s) to get three or six LFOs or a random wave from recording knob in the 12hp. Then I really liked Vamp, so many great sounds! RYK modular Time Slice still needs bug fixes, but it would be fun paired with a poly maths or I could just get the old Stardust for looping.
Technically, there's no reason I couldn't put my Kobol back into its case and then I would have 80hp FREE...

new endorphin.es EVIL PET looks rather interesting to me...

OMG, this is exactly what I wanted! I just ordered a pedal version of Clouds because none of the granular pedals I've tried do the things that I want them to do. This thing appears to be exactly what I want from a granular pedal.whyterabbyt wrote: Fri Oct 31, 2025 10:35 am new endorphin.es EVIL PET looks rather interesting to me...

Yeah, it's dangerous as hell. PC is like a 10min walk from my office, so I just go down there during my lunch break a lot of the time. Shout out to Gus, who's my buddy now.

I'd love to live next door to some place like Sweetwater, Perfect Circuit, B&H Photo, etc.Shabdahbriah wrote: Fri Oct 31, 2025 8:08 pm ^^^ 'Perfect Circuit' (large shop) is not that far from him (IIRC).![]()
