Trying my hardest lately to curb my spectral GAS and be happy with what I have - It looks like the majority of the algorithms have equivalents in GRM Tools and Spectral Suite ... or is there something in Smear that those two collections don't have ?

I'm pretty sure that with big desire can catch something which had no in others (especially using built in layering). And for example in Smear there is spectral delay (not so deep, can say, but again, in theory with layering can be construct something complex it seems).
But, But, how a much that result will be important for your music \ or your taste\joy in your style of sound explorings, that big question, which only you can answer.

My impression of Smear is that it's less generally useful than SpecOps (I don't have anything by GRM), and it just won't work well at all for some material.

But when you hit a sweet spot, it's a really sweet spot. It seems to work very nicely for drones that have a fair amount of harmonics to chew on... which I do a lot of in my music. And it has a very different flavor from anything I can do with SpecOps.

Some of the effects really want to have their mix restricted to relatively narrow bands, with or without modulating that band's frequency, while others you'll probably want to apply more broadly. And yeah, stacking multiple layers does tend to be useful.

I'm currently demoing Smear and I like it, but it's a little frustrating trying to get a feel for it because of the audio cutouts. I understand they need to nerf it for the demo, but I think the intervals are too short (cutting out 2-4 seconds of audio every 15-18 seconds or so).

I like Smear a lot. I find it more useful than Spec Ops.

Or more accurately, Spec Ops lends itself more to sonic destruction where Smear is more geared towards more musical applications.

Arturia has just launched their EFX Ambient. I've yet to use it but it does sound great.

good thread. for spectral resonance suppression specifically, CRQL ANINA (already mentioned above) is solid. soothe2 is the obvious one. we've been working in this space too with SMOOTH, which does FFT-based resonance suppression across 40 ERB bands. the ERB spacing makes a real difference for musical material vs linear FFT bins.

I have to check this because we just got it the other day through FL Cloud but I swear Melda TurboReverb has a preset section called Spectral. Nice Swiss knife reverb.

Lese Smear seems to be very buggy in Logic.

Sugar Bytes Transfigure is very good imo, which is new as well.
