I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?

Agreed. Finding the downloads has proven time and time again to be unnecessarily time consuming.syntonica wrote: Sat Oct 25, 2025 10:20 pmYeah, Discord in kinda not my favorite place...EvilDragon wrote: Sat Oct 25, 2025 9:30 pm You can simply join our Discord server, all the action is there.

if you can't figure out how to download it, and you aren't willing to join the server where development is discussed, then maybe just sit this one out for now. you probably aren't the target audience at this point.

I can and have figured out finding the download(s), but Discord in general is a sh*t show of going straight to a comment board of mostly worthless back and forth. At some point, the developer needs to evolve away from Discord.funky lime wrote: Sat Oct 25, 2025 10:51 pm if you can't figure out how to download it, and you aren't willing to join the server where development is discussed, then maybe just sit this one out for now. you probably aren't the target audience at this point.

Wow. How many bad assumptions can you cram into one poorest?funky lime wrote: Sat Oct 25, 2025 10:51 pm if you can't figure out how to download it, and you aren't willing to join the server where development is discussed, then maybe just sit this one out for now. you probably aren't the target audience at this point.

Well we have strived to keep our Discord place fun and respectful. It's one of the nicer parts of the Internet to be in, actually.
Fair enough if you don't wanna join, but I don't think Surge Synth Team is going to abandon using Discord as main means of communication with our users. Of course, there's all the different forums, there's GitHub, but the most direct line of communication is Discord and that is extremely unlikely to change.

It's not the fun and respect aspects of discord that keep me away. Your efforts in those areas are likely excellent, per the team track record, but some things will remain beyond your control, and cost you a few potential user numbers. Just putting downloads in some easy-access location would be nice.
Cheers

I never really liked Discord, i prefer a proper forum with actual threads to follow instead of the cesspool of posts in which i have great difficulty in finding any answers that may get posted to a specific question.EvilDragon wrote: Sat Oct 25, 2025 11:42 pm but the most direct line of communication is Discord and that is extremely unlikely to change.
Also they recently got hacked and lost lots of customer details. Well a company they used to process some user data got hacked. But discord employed them, so they are responsible.
Mac mini m4 pro, Reaper, too many plugins, Modal Argon8, Novation Circuit Mono Station and now a lovely Waldorf Blofeld.

Agreed. Add the constant enshittification of GitHub and contributing to software becomes less and less fun by the day.

Eventually there will be a website just like there is for Surge. In fact we're working on organization level website, www.surge-synth-team.org, and everything will be there eventually.glokraw wrote: Sat Oct 25, 2025 11:49 pmJust putting downloads in some easy-access location would be nice.

For now, GitHub release page is it (and it is linked from Shortcircuit sub-page on the org website).

It's your opinion, development is done at Github, you don't need to join Discord to notify issues.BBFG# wrote: Sat Oct 25, 2025 10:59 pmI can and have figured out finding the download(s), but Discord in general is a sh*t show of going straight to a comment board of mostly worthless back and forth. The downloads aren’t on discord. Just the day to day conversation about the project. The downloads are on our GitHub. With a stable URL and no login required. Not sure what constitutes easy access beyond that for a project at this stage (vs at a stable release stage like surge where we have a full content website and automatically update links and tag stable releases). But always interested in ideasglokraw wrote: Sat Oct 25, 2025 11:49 pm It's not the fun and respect aspects of discord that keep me away. Maybe post that link in this thread each time there's an update...baconpaul wrote: Thu Nov 06, 2025 2:56 amThe downloads aren’t on discord. Just the day to day conversation about the project. That is sometimes multiple times a day with the current pace of development. It is not feasible to update this thread that often. On the other hand, anyone can bookmark the GitHub release page in their browsers, maybe even set up an RSS feed...
