I’ve been experimenting with the new Lofinity plugin today by United Plugins — it’s quite a fun tool for getting dusty, degraded lo-fi tones.
I recorded a quick demo going through a few of the presets if anyone’s curious to hear what it can do:

Yeah. Cool plugin.
JMG sound (the actual developer) do some cool things.
It's very comprehensive in terms of Lo-Fi shenanigans. Tons of options and it has lots of nice QoL features like oversampling etc.

I'm a big fan of their plugins, but this one just feels kinda weird in terms of workflow. It's pretty tempting with all the different effects, but this one just feels kinda off from a design standpoint imo

I checked out some of the demo's for the Air tape, they all sounded over-the-top and artificial to me. The recent TapeWave plugin from Wave Alchemy sounds much better, IMO.pekbro wrote: Wed Oct 15, 2025 4:31 pm I got the tape thing from Air recently, kind of negates any need to check this for me I think.
YMMV.
I'm still coming to grips with Lofinity so won't even venture an opinion there, other than to say I love the fact there are so many algorithms!
A well-behaved signature.

Over the top is pretty much what I wanted. Got plenty tape stuff already. YMMV.JerGoertz wrote: Wed Oct 15, 2025 9:58 pmI checked out some of the demo's for the Air tape, they all sounded over-the-top and artificial to me. Lofinity is still on sale until end of month so might try and stack it with another deal. JMG is a solid developer and have quite a few of his plugins. Seems to fit in where I might want to "rapidly prototype" some lo-fi type effects, a channel strip effectively. Then either the sound dialed in with Lofinity fits, or maybe inspires me to go more precise with a different plugin, e.g. any of the myriad tape distortions. That would be my use case as I see it.
Seems to compete with XLN RC-20 or the Excite Lifeline ones. None of those piqued me enough to buy even when RC-20 was on deep discount. I think because I couldn't re-order the effects if memory serves. Have the Lite versions of Excite Expanse and Console, but uninstalled and never felt compelled to upgrade, even though they do allow re-ordering. I'd place also AudioThing Speakers in this role, which I do sometimes use.
Agree with the interface critiques. Instead of moving the bottom panel to the side as AudioToolshed showed in his review, I would think it could hide behind the main interface and when you hit the Editor button, that flips in and occupies the main panel. Haven't worked with it to know whether you need the big knob or any other controls while in edit mode. I'm sure there's a more elegant layout though.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Got it using virtual cash. Seems like a fun little tool.

I still believe RC-20 have the unique random feature that bring more life.kidslow wrote: Sun Nov 09, 2025 10:41 pm Seems to compete with XLN RC-20 or the Excite Lifeline ones. The noise have a follow and duck option for a more subtel effect
LOFINITY a toon of algo but not a single setting, just a mix.
Serato Hex, is a good competitor with way more Interesting effect like stretch etc...
Never try Excite

Another worth checking is Thenatan Vybz, obviously inspired by the likes of RC-20, maybe not as subtle/focussed but has a wide range of tools for, quite often, peanuts ($9 or so).
