For cheap? How cheap? I only see € 89.00 (~ $103).
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

$44 early bird loyalty price. I'm picking it up too. I like bass.

If you have any other Beatsurfing stuff already, make sure that you login first. You should get an extra loyalty discount when you checkout.

I paid like $25... loyalty and whatnot

there's only 1 plugin of theirs I don't own to give some idea...

*dunno if that has anything to do with the cost. I had a $5 coupon
as well.

What's the word on this one? I rarely use Random and Metal. Not because I don't like them, but I see them primarily as quirky, random, unpredictable midbass makers. Which is cool but I've been leaning into other tools for that kind of thing lately.

For lowbass and sub I generally prefer manually shaping and controlling vs randomizing. Typically with Sublab or Phaseplant, but I'm always interested in other approaches. Can you control this with any predictability? Or is it just an untamed randomizer like their other offerings?

Also, can it do variations of sine wave style basses? Or mostly dirty edgy sounds?

Post

Quirky is probably a good description, but interesting and snazzy as well. So far the jury is out on this DNA business until I spend some more time with it. It's definitely very different than the typical bass synth ime, at least outwardly.

I think it's pretty cool, but I think highly of their other stuff.

It offers way more control over shaping the sound than the RANDOM instruments. I like it. Wish there were more color schemes other than "blinding white" and "what does that say black". A tasteful gray would be welcome.

Post

This was the polar opposite of CHEat Code and RANDOM series.. no randomize at all. Couldn't there be a middle way. :(

Post

I don't know. I expected more variation from the sound examples with multiple oscillators and FX in play. If there's more to it than what I've heard, please share a sample or two!

Really wanted to try this one out, but no trial. If it was $25 I'd just go ahead and buy, but not for $45.

I loaded it into my cart and it was $30 so I went for it. Played with it for a few minutes. Reminds me of a more configurable version of Random and Metal, though it still maintains some of the unpredictability and the vibe of the other offerings.

It's a little deeper than their other offerings, which is welcome. I'm kind of liking this as a crazier version of Sublab. I could actually see getting more use out of this than the others, TBD. Need to spend some more time with it to get a proper feel for what it can do.

It's a really good 808 generator. The thing I can't get it to do is not have a thump attack - thus my saying it's an 808 machine. But sounds darn good with lots of variety in sound.

Wow is this a very cool instrument.

I bought Random, Metal, Cheatcode, and 7Deadly Snares in a bundle, and unfortunately don't make much use of them. This one however is Beatsurfing's best plugin by far. Really good at creating sub drones and evolving sub sounds. Also works great for mid-bass as well. And has good visual feedback and a mostly fun interface to work with. That's what I like about it most... It's way more fun to tweak and far more predictable/controllable than Random, Metal, and Cheatcode. Something about it draws me in and makes me want to use it.

Some minor quibbles - I wish the various rate knobs could sync to the DAW. I wish the LFO selector was a drop-down or you could right-click it so you don't have to page left and right to find a specific one.

Overall though, really cool, unique device that serves a legit sound design purpose beyond just being a weird noisemaker.

Have you tried turning the pitch attack envelope at the top off? I assume by turning the pitch knob all the way down, flattening the curve, or both?

I had kind of the opposite thought, that it was generally too soft on the attack. I don't love the sound of the pitch attack envelope but I was mostly able to make it work. I wish it had some kind of sample-based transient shaper, in addition to the pitch envelope.
