Is this going to be a standalone product that replaces the current Zenology, or it's just part of Galaxias (and therefore requires an Ultimate subscription)?

Zenology Pro is still being sold as a stand alone product and no upgrade option. But its Roland so anything could happen!vulpes777 wrote: Wed Nov 12, 2025 5:02 pm

This site suggests that GX will replace Zenology Pro. If so, I would call that a pretty dumb move after they managed to get more users on Zenology with the latest sale in summer, I suppose. And this decision proves once again that you should be careful spending your money on them. For now it looks like they’re trying to press customers into subscription, if they want the latest ZEN-Core tech and gui.
They never seem to approach customers in a respectful way. Korg shows how to do things right, they give you a simple license system, digital and analog reproductions on the one side and a flow of inspiring fresh instruments on the other side, the native series.
Although I may sound like I am paid by Korg, unfortunately the opposite is the case as I purchased everything they offer. It’s totally beyond me, how Roland seems to be constantly working on nagging and milking the customers. Why is it so hard to make money in a respectful way, when you have such wonderfully sounding instruments and a great heritage?
Sorry for the rant.

They sold the Soundcanvas plugin knowing it was being discontinued right up until it was gone, don't think for a second they won't do that with Zenology ProSLiC wrote: Wed Nov 12, 2025 5:32 pmZenology Pro is still being sold as a stand alone product and no upgrade option. Honestly it seems like just another repackaging of existing Roland Cloud Tech.abi wrote: Wed Nov 12, 2025 5:56 pmhttps://synthanatomy.com/2025/11/roland ... lugin.htmlSLiC wrote: Wed Nov 12, 2025 5:32 pmZenology Pro is still being sold as a stand alone product and no upgrade option. Seems like they are repackaging everything to try to make an Omnisphere killer as it's a VA engine that you can layer with PCM samples most of which were made by Eric Persing
Have to say with the new major enhancements to Omnisphere's VA engine in Omnisphere 3, along with everything else if you are in the market for a VA marries PCM (with an added bonus of Wavetable and granular) Omnisphere 3 is the better choice even if it costs more upfront you own it outright, and it won't stop working once a month because of Roland Cloud Manager

I have archived the installers for both Mac and Windows that I requested when Sound Canvas VA was discontinued which to my knowledge doesn't require Roland servers for authorization if I recall correctly. It's working perfectly well as VST3 within Blue Cat Patchwork.IvyBirds wrote: Wed Nov 12, 2025 6:44 pm They sold the Soundcanvas plugin knowing it was being discontinued right up until it was gone, don't think for a second they won't do that with Zenology Pro
I'm actually torn whether I would prefer an unmaintained and unsupported Roland plugin without Roland Cloud authorization or a supported plugin that is practically unmaintained with Roland Cloud authorization. I guess I'd choose the unsupported one without authorization

And this is how honest people who have paid for software end up feeling squeezed into running a cracked version, just so that they won't end up locked out of their software during a gig or when a vendor retires an authorization server.bnz wrote: Wed Nov 12, 2025 7:31 pmI have archived the installers for both Mac and Windows that I requested when Sound Canvas VA was discontinued which to my knowledge doesn't require Roland servers for authorization if I recall correctly. I wish they’d add some features to existing plugins. A nice browser for the D-50 and a granular function for the oscillators would be nice. I know it’s supposed to be an emulation, but adding a few features wouldn’t hurt.

I wouldn't be too quick to take one unsubstantiated source as gospel. Looking at it, I can't see that that's what they intend with this at all.abi wrote: Wed Nov 12, 2025 5:56 pm This site suggests that GX will replace Zenology Pro. Firstly, the "Zenology GX" name suggests it's tied to Galaxias, not intended as a standalone plugin. Secondly, at this point, it's not just tied to, but it's actually part of Galaxias and entirely contained within it, and designed for it with a bunch of UI integrations.
Thirdly, and most importantly, while the interface is nice and clearly laid out, it's fairly clear that GX is a somewhat dumbed down version of Zenology Pro - I don't think it even supports the expansions or extra model content or change in visual look between the Pro expansions etc, but I could be wrong there, I only explored it quickly.
Think of it like Zenology with a new custom interface designed to work better within Galaxias, rather than using the existing Zenology plugins, which like all the Roland plugins, don't really integrate with the Galaxias UI, they just display the regular plugin window in a UI - essentially, Galaxias is a wrapper/host for the Roland plugins. So likely Galaxias now has the core Zenology engine baked in (which a lot of Roland products do these days), and a custom UI for it.
It seems to have most of the core Zenology controls, but I don't think it's going to be replacing Zenology Pro, and nor does it go any further in synthesis terms than what you can already do in the full Zenology plugin. It's possible that Zenology Pro gets a UI makeover at some point to make it easier to use, because there are aspects of the GX UI that are simpler and easier to grok. If you already have Zenology Pro, you're not really missing out on anything.
Galaxias is a somewhat confused product imo - it's a plugin host that allows you to layer multiple Roland instruments, if you have the core strength to layer multiple instruments (it gets CPU heavy really fast, especially with multiple ACB plugins running). It's a quick source of layered presets and preset packs (a "shop-in-the-box" buy more sounds thing), and the interface is quite clunky imo. Personally, I'd prefer to use the plugins in my DAW and layer them myself if necessary, but some people are I guess going to like the preset content in Galaxias. And I guess this new version of Zenology integrated into it just, well, makes it even more confusing (you can still access the regular Zenology Pro in Galaxias as well, and every one on some tier of active subscription has some access to a level of Zenology - although you only get Galaxias on the full-beans top tier Ultimate anyway).
So I'm not quite sure of the thinking here, other than perhaps Roland thought typical Galaxias users and preset pack buyers were a bit overwhelmed with Zenology, so integrated it with a new front end to let Galaxias have access to a lot more sounds without requiring a full Zenology. Dunno. But yes, confusing indeed...

Hoping your are right and this is just a Galaxias version.
Having bought Zenology Pro recently, I would not want v2 to be the end of the line. Galaxias offers nothing to me over my existing VST host. In fact it only layers Roland plugins so it's far less useful. I want to mix in Keyscape, Omnisphere and my Gforce plugins too.
Plus it would be disappointing to think the next upgrade to Zenology would only be for Ultimate subscribers. Thats double the price of Pro. It would be a very cynical move by Roland to do that.
