Why would I need Atmosia if I already have BioTek?

I get asked about BioTek comparisons a lot - I wonder why? - I have nothing at all to do with BioTek, so watch out for my answer, Im certainly no BioTek expert as it's an in-house Tracktion product.Spitfire31 wrote: Thu Nov 13, 2025 1:55 pm The genre and layout reminds me a lot of Biotek, also represented by Tracktion.

I've become wary of their demo installs as they often won't truly uninstall. Some have no uninstall or will not do so under Windows app manager when there is an entry there. Do you have a demo that can be downloaded outside of the Tracktion DM that has an uninstall also?Lind0n wrote: Thu Nov 13, 2025 2:07 pmI get asked about BioTek comparisons a lot - I wonder why? - I have nothing at all to do with BioTek, so watch out for my answer, Im certainly no BioTek expert as it's an in-house Tracktion product.Spitfire31 wrote: Thu Nov 13, 2025 1:55 pm The genre and layout reminds me a lot of Biotek, also represented by Tracktion.

I *think* Biotek is a more "generalist" synth/hybrid product, so a lot more voices are possible but none of them are focused on the atmospheric realm that Atmosia is aiming for. Obviously the power of BioTek comes at a price - its more complicated to use, and Im not sure BioTek has quite the modulation options Atmosia3 does (but as I say Im no BioTek expert...), why not just try the demo for yourself and see if its a fit? Tracktion certainly thought it was different enough from BioTek to include it in the roster...
Like all small independent 3rd Party developers we are at the mercy of the distributor, and in this case Tracktion and their Download Manager, if DM cant work with it we dont get to ship it. Having said that I think the DM is pretty reliable, transparent, and better than many of the "other" download managers. But yes there's little or no uninstall system I can see, but that's true of any major large scale complex install, and ours is no different, our in-plugin setup system has to put content in 2 user defined places and a further 3 or 4 system folders, so a universal uninstaller is in fact a big ask of Tracktion's DM.BBFG# wrote: Thu Nov 13, 2025 4:57 pm

(This is why I gave up on ever putting Waveform on my system(s) again.)
And finding the same problem with Collective 1&2 now. Sometimes we need to completely remove things for a clean install and Tracktion doesn't seem to understand that.
I don't see it in BitwigLind0n wrote: Thu Nov 13, 2025 12:30 pmThe GUI should be entirely resizable, there's a small tab in the bottom right corner, click and drag this to resize the interface.Gribs wrote: Wed Nov 12, 2025 9:27 pm Windows 11 is reporting that the size of the library on disk is 4.36 GB. The "Easy" page of the BioTek 3 GUI looks similar to Atmosia 3 in some ways, but otherwise you are correct. BioTek is more like a combination subtractive/FM/sample-based hybrid (no wavetables AFAIK) that allows multiple layers in a combination patch. It is not dedicated to atmospheric sounds based on a library of multi-samples. It is possible to load one's own samples into the synth, but AFAIK it does not admit multi-samples.Lind0n wrote: Thu Nov 13, 2025 2:07 pmI get asked about BioTek comparisons a lot - I wonder why?Spitfire31 wrote: Thu Nov 13, 2025 1:55 pm The genre and layout reminds me a lot of Biotek, also represented by Tracktion.

(*embarrassed cough*)
Look for this feature to be (re)added in V3.0.1......
Sorry for setting expectations...
Simply allow sfz import. It would open multisample import without hassle…Lind0n wrote: Tue Nov 11, 2025 11:41 am
As to Sample Import: this has come up before in other products. Importing a single wav file is certainly possible to do, and has a conceptually simple enough workflow. But Atmosia is a multi-sampled engine, with all the added quality and lack of anti-aliased sound associated with that. We may add single-wav file import at some point, but so far we dont know of any product(point us at it if you do) that isnt itself a full blown sampler(like say Kontakt) that allows multi-sample import in a workflow thats not massively complex or tedious.

Does it support MPE? This is the mandatory feature to buy any instrument for me…
It's on the list of things to do, but to be honest I'm not even sure our distributor (Tracktion) supports Linux in their Download Manager...perhaps someone better informed could let me know.
