zerocrossing wrote: Fri Nov 07, 2025 5:27 pm There are really too many to speak of, and other threads that have gone into them. Before you go buy something, check out what comes with your DAW. For example, I use Bitwig, and its delays and reverbs have the ability to add plugins inside the feedback loop, creating incredible opportunities to sculpt your delay.
I've had Bitwig for a couple of years, and I have never noticed that before!
Someone turned me on to that a while ago, and it was quite a revelation. Make sure you put a limiter after it, because thinks can get out of control pretty easily.
Sound advice. When I first started using this, I assumed it was applying FX simply to the wet signal so I thought I'd make an awesome dub delay with a wobbling resonant band pass filter. This just not the case as I discovered very quickly! Some sort of kill switch would be good here.

It helped me understand what was happening though.

I have to admit, I haven't found a truly useful purpose for it. I'm curious what sort of setups you've stumbled across using the FX chain in the various delays.
I mostly experiment with destructive effects, distortion, bit and rate reduction, filters, time based modulation. Anything. It works better when the effect is medium to light, but the feedback is moderate and easily heard in the mix. Good for introductions, breaks, fade-outs. Places where it can be featured. Minimal ambient tracks as well.
Nice.

I'm wanting to see if I can group a bunch of FX in the FX selector container and see if I can maybe use an envelope follower or something so I can apply different FX to each delay tap. I feel like it's possible but every time I try to do, I end up super confused and abandon the whole affair..but it would be awesome to do this- similar to the multitap delay in Cubase.

Valhalla Delay is still great
Unfiltered Audio Sandman Pro
I also love the new Bionic Delay 2 - and it's only EUR 15
For free I think that PSP stepDelay is quite good
Also Sixth Sample Deelay is a full featured delay for free

I think the ultimate Swiss Army Delay would have to be MTurboDelay, with or without the MB. There's not a lot that it doesn't do.

The other three I use often would be Objeq Delay, Echoes (for the Oilcan model), and Replika.
Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

True. It's a killer DAW but the FX are nothing to write home about. I can't think of many cases where I use one instead of a 3rd party plugin.

$81, dunno if id spend that much on their stuff. YMMV.

Beam now has delay too - very powerful combined also with the routing flexibility, feedback options and other modules

I just went with what jens and pekbro recommended, which was Ripple. There might be more powerful options out there, but Ripple is not a bad kit for $50.
