Valhalla FutureVerb

I had around an hour to demo it yesterday, mostly on drums type stuff as not enough time for anything else. Drums generally are good for testing out reverbs, although I really need some vocals or synths to check out the really long verbs. Have to say it impressed me. It works wonderfully well as a reverby delay, and the verbs themselves are lush. They sit beautifully in a mix - one of my complaints with VV is that it often needs a bit of eqing, as it can be a bit too in-yer-face. This one is lush but also a bit more subtle at the same time. Smooth as! TBH I didn't immediately figure out all of how it works, but I appreciate keeping controls to a minimum...it would be too easy for it to be over-complicated.
This is going to be a godsend for when I do sparse reverby dub stuff. It will be in my delay toolbox as well as reverb box. Some of the reverse stuff it does is superb. I'll buy it today...don't need to demo it more. Valhalla already gave me enough Lexicon vibes to be a confirmed user, but this is raising the quality considerably. TBH I could raise the level ridiculously high in the mix and it still sounded beautiful. That's what I always found with older Lexicons, but this has so much more inside it. I want reverb to be big, bold and lush, but this also does very refined and subtle which is a really difficult balance. I think I'll be using this as an obvious effect rather than a realistic background verb (which it does better than other Valhalla verbs IMO).
Bought. TBH that is ridiculous quality for 50 bucks, although our exchange rate is diabolical currently. But worth it.

Oh yeah...cpu hit wasn't that much more noticeable either. I was using it on a near final mix that doesn't have that that much processing room left on my 4 yr old laptop, and it didn't struggle. TBH I don't care it uses more cpu, it's well worth any hit IMO.

One final thought...there was no parameter for feet, metres, front, back or side walls or even slope of roof! How very dare they. Obviously it sounds shit because there's no architecture or Feng Shui going on. Strangely, when I closed my eyes it became miraculously unshit, wonderful even. You just wouldn't have thought it possible, eh?

I ran it through my personal test for fast, short diffusion (ultra fast sharp saw wave resonant bass pluck) using the Chamber algorithm, and it's subjectively tied for smoothest alongside apVerb. But it's also better at avoiding comb filtering with very short sizes. I can probably retire Valhalla Room for new projects and use this instead when I want a really smooth reverb.
I thought I wasn't going to buy it because of the typical "makes my project show up as unsaved changes immediately after loading" problem that all the Valhalla plugins seem to cause me, but it's too good. Dangit.

Another reverb.. oh... it's interesting. To compare it with Room and Vintage Verb... and also will be nice to have something like Cinematic rooms pro but without Ilok...

That's not bad approach. For me I group the thing I want reverb on and usually add a local FX channel to use as a send.foosnark wrote: Fri Nov 14, 2025 3:22 pm I never really use sends, but I make frequent use of the Chain device in Bitwig which is functionally similar while remaining inline.
That lets me do things like use my preferred filter/EQ/dynamics/lofi/chorus/distortion whatever plugins on effects, then blend the total package with the dry signal however I wish. This is super nice for both delays and reverbs.
Bitwig also lets you use an envelope follower to modulate an effect parameter, which takes care of ducking quite easily without even needing to do the chain thing.
I feel this keeps things more cleanly seperated, I can then add any other FX I want on the reverb channel. It also means I have the reverb level on a channel with a fader, which I find can be better than just a mix wet/dry.
I will some times just drop a reverb in serial and use mix, but I often want more control and other stuff including a hpf etc.

For that sort of thing I'd put the track and its personal send(s) in a folder/group track together; keeps things tidy, while giving good fader control on the mixer.chagzuki wrote: Fri Nov 14, 2025 3:30 pm You mean the preference to use reverb (or delay) as an insert? For me it's a matter of project organisation and which elements need to be ducked (usually spectrally with something like trackspacer) by other elements. I often want quite specific reverbs on individual parts, EQ'd quite surgically to fit their role in the track, and I might want that signal path to be spectrally ducked by something else. It would make no sense to create loads of sends just for this purpose.

I recommend running your DAW under a cold waterfall to maximize the absorption of yin energy. Also, be careful with the gain on the input. If it's too hot, it can melt your golden core.kritikon wrote: Fri Nov 14, 2025 7:43 pm One final thought...there was no parameter for feet, metres, front, back or side walls or even slope of roof! You can add a little extra air to the sound by riding on a flying sword.
I hate signatures too.

What I've been doing with a lot of success is to side chain a dynamic EQ instead of regular ducking. There are a lot that will do this, but I use Waves' F6. This way, when there's nothing going on, I can let though all or most of the reverb signal, but I can also attenuate portions of the spectrum dynamically.chagzuki wrote: Fri Nov 14, 2025 3:07 pm I use reverbs as inserts a lot, and in that case I need ducking built in, and I prefer being able to keep the dry signal at 100% while adding reverb. Hence I don't use Valhalla plugins that much.

how does iLok affect the sound?Alexander_D wrote: Fri Nov 14, 2025 8:11 pm Another reverb.. oh... it's interesting. To compare it with Room and Vintage Verb... and also will be nice to have something like Cinematic rooms pro but without Ilok...

It doesn't. It affects the decision on whether or not to purchase a given plugin, by potential customers who oppose that specific form of DRM.DCrown wrote: Sat Nov 15, 2025 2:16 pmhow does iLok affect the sound?Alexander_D wrote: Fri Nov 14, 2025 8:11 pm Another reverb.. oh... it's interesting. If you read what you quoted again you should be able to notice that Alexander did not claim it does.DCrown wrote: Sat Nov 15, 2025 2:16 pmhow does iLok affect the sound?Alexander_D wrote: Fri Nov 14, 2025 8:11 pm Another reverb.. oh... it's interesting. More careful reading can prevent misunderstanding such as this.

well, when people talk about plugins here , it is mostly about making sound, so sound, some call it music, is what it is all about.jens wrote: Sat Nov 15, 2025 3:00 pmIf you read what you quoted again you should be able to notice that Alexander did not claim it does.DCrown wrote: Sat Nov 15, 2025 2:16 pmhow does iLok affect the sound?Alexander_D wrote: Fri Nov 14, 2025 8:11 pm Another reverb.. oh... it's interesting. Majority of my plugins are iLok and they all make sound, enhance sound, modulate sound, add something to sound etc
So I thought he had some sound problems with iLok, maybe crackles, noise or..., I could recommend some reparing tools like a denoiser by Waves or Ozone or...
If you thought with your brain more carefully, you would maybe find out yourself that it is about sound here. Vallhalla FutureVerb adds reverb to sound, doesn't it?!
More careful thinking can prevent from not knowing what it is all about in a plugin effects thread

Cripes this thread is so damned hostile, even for KVR. Why does everyone need to get so damn snippity?
Anyway, I bought it last night and have been having fun putting it through its paces. I found that the Swarm echo can self-generate ethereal, evolving UFO noises all on its own when the feedback is above 75% and Low Cut is below say 200Hz. The exact tone depends heavily on Low Cut, and in Logic at least needs at least something in the Instrument slot, doesn't seem to matter what. Here's a sample patch.
Now the dog is barking. His name is literally Echo so no surprise there, natch.
