It's a shame they didn't make a plugin verion of the Mod 7 engine from the Kronos; that would probably do the trick.

How about a full Kronos plugin? Anyway, sorry, this is OT. The SY77 was a unique beast and nothing else is the same, not even my beloved SY99.

MOD-7 on Kronos can use audio input, though. Close enough.
EDIT: You can actually also use PCM instead of generated waveforms in MOD-7, too. So, it basically does fully do the RCM thing as well.

Yeah the FX unit was a bit meh. It was much improved on SY99.

I seem to remember that i wanted a SY99. Probably due to the better effects. The only thing less interesting was the SY85. I can't remember ever having a desire to own one. lol
HALion could be called a modern version of the SY77/99, right?

In a way, yes.

In many ways yes, especially for pure FM. It has the waveforms from the SY99 for the FM parts and you can build your own Algos and feedback loops so for the most part you can use it to emulate pretty much anything that you could do with pure FM in SY77 or SY99. The way the FM interacts with the samples however is differentmi-os wrote: Sun Nov 16, 2025 8:02 pm HALion could be called a modern version of the SY77/99, right?
HALion7's FM engine is basically the FM side of Yamaha's FS1R with added waveforms, filters, and effects. FS1R was the generation of FM that Yamaha released after SY77/SY99 but before Montage

If you load SY77 patches into an SY99, they sound better to me even when the effects are bypassed. Of course, there are many reasons why that could be happening.

With the SY Series you could directly use a sample as an operator to modulate another operator using FM Synthesis
With HALion7 you can't. Instead you can use the mod matrix to use a sample like you would an LFO and point them at multiple targets but that doesn't perform FM Synthesis, and honestly while that sounds cool in theory, in the real world it really isn't
The thing with HALion7 is that the Mod Matrix is already so deep and already has so many options including things like polyphonic LFOs that trying to make a sample an LFO isn't really worth the hassle
Basically if you love FM you should get both Sway and HALion7. The approaches to using both are just different

I wouldn't say imminent. Still have some presets to make, some samples to tweak, and the web shop stuff to set up. Right now I expect to be done somewhere next month, but December is not a good month for me to release it.Fette Töle wrote: Sat Nov 15, 2025 5:34 pm Any news about Sway? Sorry for my impatience, but with all the temptations in the run-up to Black Friday, I'm finding it hard not to spend the money I've set aside for Sway on something else (Omnisphere 3, Proxima, Kontrast, etc.).
