What specific purpose plugin did you fall for marketed as do-it-all that didn't in fact do it all?

Who hasn't fallen victim to the "only plugin you'll ever need" for a specific purpose hype out there?

I can tell you ones that are the "only plugin I'll ever need".
Mix EQ - Pro-Q
Mix Compression - TB Audio Impress 3
Clipping - KClip
Mutli Effect - Shaperbox
Mastering - Ozone
So my answer is any plugin not in this list. Not that I only use these, but I could easily do a complete mix and master with just these 5 plugins.

I'll go with Ozone. On paper, it's the only plugin I'd ever need to master/finalize my tracks and it's great having everything in one plugin. On the other hand, I have several standalone plugins that I prefer over some of Ozone's modules, or in addition to Ozone, so I very rarely finish songs using just Ozone, unless it's a quick demo or maybe a simple song that e.g., only has piano and vocals.
Logic Pro | LUNA Pro | OB-X8 | Prophet 6 | OB-6 | Rev2 | TEO-5 | Pro 3 | SE-1X | Minitaur | Deepmind 12D | Integra-7 | TR-1000 | Analog RYTM mk2 | Digitakt 2 | TD-3 MO | TD-3 | Maschine+

Actually if you read the title of the topic you'll see it was meant to be about plugins that didn't turn out to fit the hype or your expectations "and wasn't" not which is your favorite.cryophonik wrote: Mon Nov 17, 2025 5:52 pm I'll go with Ozone. I would definitely have to agree on Nexus. Nexus 5 to be exact. I can hardly see anything in that pitch dark garbled up gui.

Do you prefer the stand alone plugins because they reflect the sound you are after when you master currently or are they just better plugins for that particular job?cryophonik wrote: Mon Nov 17, 2025 5:52 pm I'll go with Ozone. That's exactly what I'm saying. Ozone *should* be the only plugin I'll ever need for mastering, but it isn't.dblock wrote: Mon Nov 17, 2025 7:11 pmActually if you read the title of the topic you'll see it was meant to be about plugins that didn't turn out to fit the hype or your expectations "and wasn't" not which is your favorite.cryophonik wrote: Mon Nov 17, 2025 5:52 pm I'll go with Ozone. Sometimes it's sound, other times it's just simply workflow. Fabfilter Pro-L is a good example of both - I prefer it over Ozone's limiter for both reasons.Bunny_boy wrote: Mon Nov 17, 2025 7:43 pmDo you prefer the stand alone plugins because they reflect the sound you are after when you master currently or are they just better plugins for that particular job?cryophonik wrote: Mon Nov 17, 2025 5:52 pm I'll go with Ozone. Glad you finally got your coffee, though.
