I think the first year of 6 ended with the dolby atmos update at 6.5.
Plus you still had another year of updates to go for your $150.

Ultimately, it comes down to this: once you're in a subscription process and paying regularly, you become dependent, because you often can't continue using the product long-term if you cancel the subscription. This is usually because you have to verify your account online regularly when using or installing the program. The manufacturers know this, and it's intentional on their part. As a result, the manufacturers eventually don't even need to keep their promises anymore, since many users have become dependent and aren't quick to switch to another DAW because their existing songs and projects would otherwise be lost, unusable, etc. The manufacturers simply reverse the dependency situation, and most people just accept it. It's that simple. In that sense, you could say everyone gets what they deserve. Just as ordered. I mean that generally, not personally to someone here.

But that’s not how PreSonus operates. Your license is perpetual. It’s just your updates that aren’t. But that’s true of all software when the next version comes out.

If you are using Studio One Pro + with monthly payment your license will never get perpetual... just with anual payments!
Nope again...But that’s true of all software when the next version comes out.
There is a ton of software with lifetime free updates like everything Image Line, Melda Production, Davinci Resolve and tons of others...

i second this. its either this or the latter of they are working on a really big feature such as plugin sandboxing to work with ara. i think reaper is the only daw that has managed to accomplish this? could be a pretty tough task.Crossinger wrote: Thu Nov 20, 2025 7:22 am Something must have gone terribly wrong behind the scenes.
If we consider the releases as results of sprints (or even PI's - product increments), the output of the development team is remarkably low by today's standards.
just giving an example of something that they could be working on that would be really time and resource intensive for developers that could be a positive reason of why this is all taking so long.
do u prefer the glass half empty or half full i guess lol.

It all depends on what they're trying to program, who's trying to program it, and the state of the code base. Every DAW seems to have lulls in development, though few lulls in complaints. Sometimes a new feature reveals that you need to do hella work on said code base. This stuff is not easy and the company should not have voiced any claims. I'm quite sure the devs were cringing when they heard it. Four major adds a year? Fantasy.Crossinger wrote: Thu Nov 20, 2025 7:22 am Something must have gone terribly wrong behind the scenes.

As a suggestion, they could come up with a new major version including plugin sandboxing, parameter modulators, per-voice modulation support for CLAPi and VST3i MPE, improved rendering dialogue including song/project name variables, custom paths, open source ARA3 integrated into CLAP, vastly improved plugin manager (e.g. multiple entries actions, custom tags), full and bug free daw project support, melody, rhythm and chord variant generation, improved startup time (aka skipping all checks), logarithmic waveform visualization (y-axis), transient waveform visualisation and context aware workflow improvements. In case you run out of ideas...

Maybe just switch to Cubase 15 for these features?
Well, or almost for them )
By the way, that's what I did, and I don't regret it one bit.

The names of the programmers were deleted from the Presonus site for a reason. Let's just say they went the AVID route when it comes to programming.Propstar wrote: Fri Nov 21, 2025 1:13 am I think the dev team was just busy on the Fender Studio app for most of the year. Now that's out and updated they'll be working on S1 again.

Are you sure about this? Is there any source of this news?

Enough nonsense.
The Software Development team is listed under Studio One > About Studio One
It is a pretty substantial team consisting of 14 people.
The Fender Studio Software Development team is a 12-member subset of the same team.

Did you just try to “well, actually” me?Trancit wrote: Thu Nov 20, 2025 12:42 pmNope...jamcat wrote: Thu Nov 20, 2025 10:40 am ... Your license is perpetual. It’s just your updates that aren’t.

The facts are pretty clear here: PreSonus offers perpetual license plans, which are chosen by the vast majority of Studio One users. So the notion that a subscription model somehow untethers PreSonus from responsibility to their users doesn’t apply here, if it even holds true anywhere.
Your second “well, actually” argument revolves around a bold claim of “tons” of software titles with lifetime free updates, while naming the one DAW that does, as almost the entirety of your proof. Immediately grasping for an obscure video editor as your next and only other legitimate example just shows how weak your outlier list actually is, and that’s all it is: a very short list of outliers. See, I (or anyone) could list all of the DAWs that do have paid upgrades, but that would be a very long list of every DAW except for Fruity Loops.

Trancit said software and not DAWs specifically
jamcat is correct that FL Studio is the only DAW mentioned in that list
Someone will inevitably mention Logic so - you're welcome everyone
It is true that those are serious outliers in the land of paid DAWs tho, so I get the cat's point but
I don't care about any of that and just wanted to mention that DaVinci Resolve isn't exactly obscure.
