Yeah 1 tone row only between two instruments (prob) - I actually think Webern's very short compositions are pretty worthless - try doing that at music college - they would say it's shite and it took you only a couple of minutes.......

If the professors at music colleges these days really would refer to a hitherto unknown work of one of the 20th century's great geniuses as "Shite" one might wonder if this said more about the teachers and their schools than about the work or it's creator.

Yeah that's true -- how many teachers and professors in music colleges are great composers - prob hardly anything - all they are good at is be critical of other composers work....

Yes, songs are divided by title no matter how short or long. However, if 1 song is 20 min, it's cheap at .99.

If you think thats cheap, check out http://www.emusic.com
$9.99 a month gets you upto 40 track downloads. No crappy usage restrictions either.
I can find 40 tracks of good music out of 1/2 million each month and it cost me 25 cents a track

I did an emusic binge recently. The best thing is the subscription fee over the per tune price at the other download shops.
I got well over 15 hours of really great, hard to find music for $20. Tracks that are an hour long only count as one track. Sure its only mp3, but since I'm commuting on 2 streetcars and subway each way to work with an mp3 player and earbuds, I think the lost frequencies would have been lost on me any way.

It might appear a rip off in the context of buying it on it's own, but it's more likely to be bought as part of the entire album. If UK iTunes is the same as US iTunes than it's fairly cheap to buy the whole album on iTunes (comparatively speaking) and that's a lump sum, not per track.
I couldn't say for sure though. I don't have iTunes myself. Obviously Australia just isn't as important as the rest of you bastards

(Of course, I'm on a crippled dial-up with no prospect of broadband so downloading music is out of reach anyway, but that's just going to me angrier

I still won't consider any online music service until lossless (or at least high quality MP3) is an option. Why would I want to pay almost as much as a CD when I'm getting crap for quality? And that doesn't even take into account that I can't listen to this crappy quality music when and where I want, thanks to DRM.

If I had broadband, I'd never leave

Has anyone tried the Russian download site allofmp3.com?

You pay not by the song, but by the mb. The selection isn't perfect, but better than many sites.

allofmp3 looks great to me. Finally a good combination of decent selection (at least for what I'm looking for), good quality, and fair pricing. I'll have to look into this one a little closer, but it looks good to me so far. Thanks for the link, atomic_afro.

How many have supported artists closer to home with equally good or better quality tracks, at cost effective prices?
Do you see the price dropping on each track as a benefit to the artist or ripping them off? – how much does the artist get from the sale?
